You must be reading a different forecast than I am. It's supposed to briefly warm up Sunday and Monday, but be stormy. The rest of the days in the extended forecast are cold and cloudy. I need to move south.

I meant EVENTUALLY the sun will return!

I'm sitting her watching one of my hens walk back and forth trying to get back to the other side of the netting with the other hens. Funny how they can never remember how to get back in once they escape

We are babysitting for Daughters St.Bernard while they are in Florida
so I had to reconfigure the fence to keep the dog in the back yard and the chickens in another section of the yard. seems like it is always the same 2 that get out. they watched the cat go under the net now they leave any time they want. back and forth, back and forth, if she would go down 1 more panel she would be able to get under If I go out they will all come running and want a treat....guess I will have to go out, don't want her getting to stressed.

Hi all!

I am going to raise chickens for meat for my first time this year, and I am looking for chicks in west Michigan. I am in the Cedar Springs/Sparta area, but would travel.

Does anybody know of a farm selling chicks?

Thanks

OOOOPS, was that a serious post YOU made

Hehehe. Definitely not serious on my part.

I was glad to have found my match. I have some family who feign guilt like they're in confession if they take a Tylenol PM. LOL!

Educate me on the difference, if you would please. My son can't elaborate on the finer points, really.

True Rouens are much larger, they hold their bodies more horizontal and have a large keel. (Which is the chest area in the front.) They are great meat birds, but not great layers. Production Rouens are what you would get from a hatchery, they look like mallards both in coloration and size. They are smaller than true Rouens, stand a tiny bit more upright and do not have a significant keel. Production Rouens have slightly better laying tendencies than true Rouens but not by much.

That may actually be a GOOD thing RaZ! I like Olive's non prescription idea of Ibuprofen (motrin, advil, whatever brand).

Raz, if you could get some Ibuprofen from the drug store you can just take a few extras to get the Rx strength, wash them down with some hops soda if you must. I think, like Total Colour said, it's really just about being able to sleep without a twinge. That complete rest of all the muscles, without any discomfort to distract you goes a long way towards healing. At least for me. Kind of like when women are in labor and they're not progressing they'll give them a little something to take the edge off. The sleep in between contractions relaxes the body just enough to let the labor progress as it needs to. Of course then you go from a four to a ten and crowing in twenty minutes, your doctor barely makes it there and it's too late for an epidural when the shot they give you wears off just as you have to start pushing. Ask me how I know. LOL!

I put up a fence to keep the chickens and dogs out of the area where I have ornamental grasses and cat tails coming up....

Mom! Where did you get that collapsible, moveable fence? Just what I'm looking for!

I survived my root canals today. I was so jumpy this morning I skipped my coffee... I'm having it now so I don't take a nap. I'm sure I'll be back later tonight when I can't sleep.

Tap - So glad you survived! Hope you're not in too much pain later.
Oh, I finished a masterpiece painting yesterday! If I have time, I shall start another one today. (Have to fisnish chores before I allow myself to paint)

TC - Do we get to see pictures of your artwork? Please?

She was hooked on prescription pain meds and found some that she had stashed. She gave them to me but doesn't remember what the name was. All I know is that if you don't have insurance you can't get medical care anywhere.

RaZ - All I'm going to say here is please be careful.

You guys are kidding about the meloxicam and red wine, right? Cause I do it every night.

Chickmate-

fourteen dollars a panel at Home Depot. I bought six, should have gotten twelve. )&**& dogs have discovered the end that doesnt have any.
Chickens have proven they can levitate to get where they want to go.

Olive, you have decribed most deliveries before the epidural became popular! Too true!

Congrats RaZ - you can be proud of those mallards.

Snowflake - my daughter said that her chicken was once pacing the fence like that. Confused about how to get back in the run. Then a dog chased her and she became very clear about how to get into the run. My daughter was amazed at the clarity that came over that chicken!

You are all a very funny group. I am thinking we should print all this out and sell it as book. Split the profits.
