I prefer oils to acrylics, I like that it can take days for the colors to dry so I can fix things. I never could do water colours, of course I only ever tried it once in junior high or sometime around there and could never get the colors to go where I wanted them. Made no sense to me at all. My older sister who is into pointillism gave me a set of pastels a couple years ago to try but I haven't yet. Can't remember if they're oil pastels or pastel pastels. She gave me a how-to book but it's for the opposite of what she got me. I really ought to try something but I fear I'm still afraid of "coloring outside the lines", been my problem for years.

I work in acrylics and water colors. I would love to try oils, but wouldn't know what I was doing since the most I ever took were high school art classes and at our little podunk school it was very basic. They only even had art 1 and art 2 for actual instruction. Junior and Senior years it was just "independent study" which basically meant doing whatever the heck you wanted with whatever you'd learned in art 1 or art 2.

As promised, 3 weeks old. Now I have to leave for Boston to finish a house. When I get back I'll shoot some 5 week pics. Oh, and a warm Palm Sunday to all the peeps out there no matter where you are!

Wow....those babies sure grow fast. I can't believe how much bigger since your previous pic.

My chicken have totally messed up my rock garden out in front. They have the mulch scattered everywhere except where it's suppose to be. I'm going to have hens&chicks popping up all over because they successfully scattered them EVERY WHERE in the garden. I've been trying to keep them out of the front just for that reason and some how they found their way back up front when I wasn't looking. Told my family if they see them heading toward the front to get broom and shoooo them away.

Here is a pic of the feathered demons right after they had their fun. Probably ate all the worms that were to be had and came up to the house looking for treats!



Now I need to go and clean the brooder box.....Those little chicks are MESSY!!

Mom 2em All and six little silver and white banties that I would have gotten if my husband wasnt with me- only because someone on this thread had asked about those, had one and it passed away...just cant remember who.
That would be me, i had a little porcelain de'uncle that i fell in love with. So cuddly, rubbed his little head all over my hand when we were snuggling.

Juise, i have been wanting to ask you about the cold pressed coffee thing..... could i put coffee in a mason jar, fill it with water, then strain it with a cloth??? I have never had that kind of coffee, and i am intrigued.....also, being able to just heat up premade coffee in the morning would be priceless.

I think our goat escapee got into the poison sumac while i was going to get DH the other day, so now he has it all over his face probably, and i didn't figure it out quick enough, so...... and that bit about not spreading is hooey, cause i fell asleep with my hand tucked under my face, and yup, there too, in exactly the same spot as that part of my hand was touching! Sigh.

Going to go get some rubbing alchohol to keep out by the animals, soap and witch hazel isn't working good enough.

If ants are getting into your food storage areas, wipe all of surfaces with white vinegar. That disrupts their scent trail.

Gary the hawk was back this morning but all the girls were safe and sound. I might have to rethink when the new chicks are going outside. It better be soon, with 8 in the brooder it is getting crowded. I'm positive that 1 of the SLW is a male.

I should make a run to TSC today, I'm getting low on supplies and maybe they will have that rooster sculpture.

On the other hand, maybe I should rest my back for one more day.

ETA: Fuzzybutt, try a product called Technu, it works well even after exposure. Most drug stores and big retailers carry it.

I think a Sunday AM meeting is also very inconsiderate,!!! 8 to 12 is like saying they are not only more important they family but also more important then God,,, 8 to 12 covers most church services if you wanted to go. (except the Sat. eve. ones)

My dad had a formula he used, can't find it now but it could have been the same as Opa's, I have used Terro in the past the most important thing to remember when tackling ants it BE PATIENT,,,you can't start killing them when you see them you have to let them take the stuff back to their nest and some times it may take weeks depending on how big the nest is.If non of this works, call an exterminator you could have something that is eating your foundation

My first new chicks in a couple years are coming this week. Anything I need to remember that I may have forgotten? Got the brooder set up with a light bulb and the heat source works, got the chick starter yesterday, got vitamins for the water. That seems to easy, I must be forgetting something! They don't need grit or calcium yet do they?

Oh and my guineas have started laying eggs! I'm going to collect some once they really get going and see if I can hatch a few. Haven't incubated eggs in a few years either!

They don't need grit or calcium.
When you start to feed them things other than the starter is when you offer the fine grit to them.

Just from my limited experience...
Last year when they were about 18 weeks, I had oyster shell available for them but they ignored it until they started laying. Even then, they barely touched it. I guess they are getting a balanced diet. I do have trays with coarse grit, fine grit and oyster shell set out in case they want it.
