I've never seen one either. I don't know if it's our location, or what it is, but we don't seem to have issues with them here despite being rural.

Just came in and felt something crawling up my neck - a tick, of course.

Stripped the kids down and looked them and their clothing over, and they were clear. Started on myself, and found another tick on the inside of my shirt!

That makes 4 ticks in as many days! Sat down for the evening yesterday and felt one crawling up my neck, and just the previous night I woke up at 3am and foggily felt something crawling on me, pulled my arm out of the blankets and there was a tick crawling up it.

I'm getting ticked off, and probably a nervous tic to boot! Sure are a lot of them this year! And can I just say, one more time,

!!!!!

OMG I totally with you. Most insects and such don't bother me but those totally gross me out!! I cant believe youve seen that many already! Yuck! I hope that isn't a forecast for how bad they'll be during summer...

I have never even seen a tick before, Hope I would recognize one if I saw it.

Google it !! You'll get lots of pictures of disgusting ticks.

If you don't have long grasses and such around your property, they probably aren't a problem. Its usually when you get into wooded areas or long grassy fields where you might see them. At my parents' property they get really bad the last 5 years or so and I hate it!! There's those tall field grasses everywhere, and the ticks climb up to the top and just hang out there, waiting for someone or something to walk by so they can grab on. It's called "questing" when they do this. Gives me the creeps.

I am not sure, but I think Spring and especially Fall are supposed to be the worst for ticks. Or the best for ticks, if you ask them.

I can't believe you guys have never seen a tick before! I normally see one every once in awhile, but this is pretty insane. We live in a pretty wooded area with lots of dune grass, so prime tick country. I pull them off the cats all the time, medication or no medication.

They do creep me out a bit just as they are, but it is the Lyme Disease that scares the bejebus out of me. Ottawa county has a really high rate, too.

Actually, we have lots of that -- we're in the heart of MI grain and dairy country. There's fields and woods for miles and miles around. We've personally got grassy fields and wooded areas right on the property and we spend a lot of time out there. They just don't seem to be bad here like they are in other areas.

I know a young gal who got bit in a park in a big city of all places and contracted Lyme Disease, watching how down and out she was from it was horrible.

Well, I am guessing you are going to need to find an organic tic repellent or something... That is a lot of ticks.

I let the ducks out today to roam around the yard. I baby sat them... SO, I did more yard work. I got their pen completely cleaned out. I hope I do not find anymore glass in there. I swear! One of the ducks keeps sitting. She seems to be shaking a bit at the back side and walking a bit gingerly. One of the ducks laid an egg in the pen this morning too. But the one that's shaky... I think she may be trying to push a big one. One has not been laying every day, and I think its her. We get one HUGE duck egg every day, and for the last few days, they've been every other. Other than that, she seems fine. I don't know nothing though. If she's still like that tomorrow... I'll be asking Olive for advice on what to look for. Yup.

Set the burn pit on fire too. The neighbor did actually. I was burning the pile from the duck coop, and he said, "Light this up too," So he did. Then he and the kids collected a bunch of downed branches and thru them in. I hope it al burns out good. Thats the site of the future duck pond.

We were discussing which trees to take out of our yards. If all goes well, next year I will have a place to add more produce boxes. YEAH! I really want to grow lettuces. I am going to try pumpkins this year. For no other reason than to get one vine going for the chickens. LOL. Am I crazy? No, not really.

Well, I hope your little rabbit makes it to dinner time Olive.

I think you must be blessed with a tick-free existence or just incredibly lucky then!! I luckily haven't seen any on our property either, but gets moved pretty regularly and there's no real woods on our side of the road either. But when I go up north, oh boy, they are everywhere taking over the world. Gross.

And that definitely sucks. One of my 2nd cousins got it a couple years ago too pretty bad, Took him forever to beat that one.

Nova,
I once saw a duck that was shakey at the backside and she had maggots on her skin. Some poo had attracted the flies who laid the maggot eggs.
When the maggots hatched, they were nibbling on the poo and any dead skin and she was shakey.
It is easy to remedy. Just wear gloves so you feel braver and have someone hold her. Then clean the area and use a tweezer to remove the maggots.
They are usually right on the skin where you can see them.
People fear they are
inside the animal but usually they are on the outside skin.

Missouri is well know for having lots of ticks and one of the best deterrents for keeping them out of your grass is guineas.

I wish gas was #3.15 but as long as we are wishing lets all wish for it to be the same as when I started driving.........17 cents. I don't thing the wishing will get us either one.
