Oh. let me not neglect the Edna news. Last night I bought a dozen eggs from a BYC listing, they'll be shipped from Oklahoma Monday. This was from someone (BYC name okiechickens) who has several different breeds/varieties, and you could mix and match for the dozen. So I asked her for a mix of her Blue/Black Ameraucana and her Easter Egger eggs. She said she would choose out the widest vaiety of shades of blue and green eggs that are laid this weekend to ship to me. I don't think Edna can cover more than four eggs (she's tiny), so when I get them I will candle to check if air cells are detached and keep the best ones. If more than four look good, I'll choose the best egg colors to keep, I guess.

If I get very lucky and most of the eggs look good--anyone interested in the extra eggs for your incubator or a broody hen? No charge, I'll just throw them out if I can't find anyone who wants them. No special claims about them being show quality (the Ameraucanas, obviously, since with the EE's that's not even a question...) or exceptional in any way. I was just interested in getting a wider range of egg colors. Anyway, I would be willing to meet someone part way if anyone is crazy enough to want to incubate any extras.

(Since we have been so disease-aware lately, I did ask her about her testing/vaccinating. She has not tested or vaccinated her birds, got the original stock from a NPIP source, has had buyers test her stock without a problem, but is not NPIP herself. Says she has a closed flock with no known problems. So I will cross my fingers just a little...) (Although most states do not require MG testing anyway, so a NPIP certification wouldn't matter there, and MG is the biggie as far as hatching eggs, right?)

oh, I wasn't even sure that it WAS a chicken!

Himself brought up a bunch of hathclingsfrom the 'bator today - only one of them was really odd. It looks like this

Henry 20th (all my ducks are Henry) This is a silver phase Welsh Harlequin.

Oh, and I got 4 black Copper Marans, 5 Icelandics (3 eggs are due tomorrow)

None of us are sure if it is a chicken or not. What we do know it that M2M is on a crazy breeding mission of crossing ostrich to chicken and I think she found some dinosaur DNA to throw into the mix.

The only thing that we have agreed upon is the name. Uggo.

Oh, and one other thing, they are 99.9% certain to be male. (Except for the 2 girls I got from her).

Mom2m- why do you dye the chicks?

Because have you seen the picture of all the chicks that are the colors of the rainbow and the caption, "Chickens should NOT eat Skittles?"

I want them. However, I was too scared to inject the food coloring into the egg before hatching. So, when my grandson was here, we tried to paint some dye on the hatching chicks. It doesnt work. Their feathers resist. I didnt want the chick to get chilled, so I ended up with a lilac instead of a neon purple chick.

Just for fun..

Milk. Whole milk,2% and goat milk.

And the occasional Labatt...or Maker's Mark.

Labatt is beer.

Oh MY, what is it?

Its a Showgirl. A real one. After hatching multiple uggos, finally some showgirl eggs that I had to have shipped in finally hatched. I even got a black one out of the bunch....

I think it is called an

Uggo. Mom2em is famous for breeding them. They are usually roosters!

hahahaha...yep, CG. I hatched a bunch of Uggos again, but that particular one is actually a purebred ...shhhh. It CANT be a rooster.

Didn't we tell you? M2M is on a mission to breed the ugliest chickens known to mankind.

Unbeknownst to you I plan on filling your truck with little banty roos while you are here.

Ya know it's a rare occasion that I find it best for me not to comment. This is one of those rare times that I think it best to NOT comment in order to keep the peace!

Yorkchick I forgot to quote you...threaten Henry to send him back here. Tell him there is NO grass here, not even one blade. That should straighten him out.
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWW baby Henry goosers. Only two? What if they dont hatch or are duds? Or boys..oh wait, only I hatch out all males in every hatch....

PICTURES?

And I think you can safely put six eggs under your banty hen. Definitely, especially since they are shipped eggs and no guarantees on their developing. My bantys will sit huge nests of their size eggs..and the Frizzle eggs...and when I pull them out most all of them are warm.

Happy Easter everyone. I have the girls baskets hid in my van. I have to go retreive them and stash them. I told them they werent getting any baskets because I bought them bikes. ..But, I did it anyway.

There HAS to be something you drink besides water.
Coke? Diet Coke? Diet Pepsi? Mountain Dew?

Feed him, while you're at it. Even if it's that hypocritical grocery store food.

There's room in my 'bator -- and I have to run it this time of year for the Turks anyway -- but we're pretty far from one another, I think.

I'm down in Lansing often... maybe we could work out an egg train?

ETA: I don't need/want the chicks. But I'm happy to hatch them. Fair warming: I do not test either.

I might be able to talk the husband in to doing some grilling..I have no idea whats out there in the freezer. Thinking of food at five thirty in the morning doesnt work very well for me..I will ponder it later. We may have some brats in this freezer...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My boss called me yesterday. She is gettting three rhode island red hens from her husbands best friend. His wife left him, and they were her birds. Coming from Ohio. I told her I will take them.
I am not taking them. I will give them to my brother in law. He told me to hatch him out only pullets. I do believe my rooster curse is his fault.
