Guess what i found in our bantam bin this evening? Bout fell over, there was only one, and i got her. (gave a gal the $$$ and combined orders) She is fitting in well with the others, though they grew more than i thought! Now little bean has a companion, the 2 bigger ones were hanging together and ignoring him. I am hoping for a girl, of course (Named her pearl) but it's staying if it's a boy.


Either someone is quicker than me, and knows what they are doing, or we are only getting the rarer breeds as "fill in's" to round out the orders.

This is rather vague territory for me, but I believe there is round up you can spray on weeds in your lawn without effecting the lawn, and so forth...

But yes, it does leave harmful chemicals behind.

For the horses, we use a product in their pasture called Pasture Pro. There is also a store brand at TSC that has the same chemical (much cheaper). It kills the weeds in the pasture without killing the grass. I use it on my lawns as well. Don't put horses in for a couple of days after spraying, but label says you can put them back on pasture soon as it is dry.

Fuzzybutt: Those are some cute chicks!

My husband wants a Flemish Giant after I mentioned raising some rabbits for pets, 4-H, and food. The pictures of them are just shocking in how big they are.

Mom2emall: Also sorry to hear about your chick and I hope you're recovering well. Japanese Maple are really great trees.


We bought our first chicks this evening. They are some week old pullets- Tractor Supply's version of Americauanas and ISA Browns, 4 of each. I thought I had picked out chicks that didn't have pasty butt (a few in the store had them) but when we got them all settled in our brooder (large plastic tote) with food, water, and their lamp I checked each one. An ISA had the thick stuff so I rushed it upstairs and watched some youtube videos on how to clean it. I think I overstressed it in the end and some of the fluff on it's butt is thinner than the rest. Any tips would be great. I can hear them peeping away down there, moving around and digging in the shavings so I think they are good.

I have given much thought about my recent problems with rooster aggression. The fav roo i had tried to keep, he started fighting my roo after he got his first hen, and my roo didn't like giving her up. Understandable. Then i stepped in between, and seperarated them with the soft part of the broom, put the newer roo in the goat pen with my red hen. Couple days later the roo started attacking me. Went on for a month despite me trying to get him to knock it off, and i didn't let the roos range together, kept the fav in the pen unless EE was in with his girls. I think the other EE roo i had to give up may have been the same way, starting after i stepped in., etc etc. My big question is, should i continue trying to seperate the roos if it is getting serious, or should i leave it be and hope for the best? I never let them get into a fight on purpose, and never in a caged area, they always have room to bow out and run, and i never let the winner pursue if i can help it I am particularly attached to my pet roo, and i don't want him to be seriously hurt, he is feisty but not a good fighter.
Both of these other roos were not excessivly handled, and were friendly until they got a hen, and i broke up their fights. ?????

Ummm ladyfeather, did you get it wet so it came off easier? You gotta soak it a minute, then start picking. gross, but after you are done it shouldn't come back. Then get her back into the warmth of her heatlamp.

A crock pot is good for raising dead chickens...raising them to an edible state.

Frying pans, ovens and grills will also work.

I would do rabbit... but I am so allergic to their fur.... Oh, but it tastes so yuuuuuumy... Nice brace of coneys on the grill... Oh yeah. LOL

I'd love to raise them for food too as my source of meat, but am also allergic. I have never eaten one though, how do they taste? Ive always wanted to try. Can you just catch bunnies from your yard and eat them, the wild ones? Is this ok to do?

I agree that its great that people are doing it, and I also think it's really dumb that people are getting in trouble for it. Who the hell cares? Let people use the land for SOMEthing if it's otherwise gonna sit there unused.

If I can find something besides RaZ's elbow grease to get rid of this creeping weed I will try it.
But do I have to keep the chickens off the yard as well? Those will be harder to do than holding my horses....
