We started last year with the opening of our family business and along the way we wound up adopting 12 chickens that had been abandoned when their family moved away :'(. But we have come to love our little group <3

Hi everyone! You guys are such a funny group. I just noticed that there are more and more people posting who are out by me! Yay! Howdy neighbors!!!

I'm really starting to think that Raz has some serious issues. First we find out about his bird fondling and now it's dog licking. I think he's spending too much time alone.

Yep, it's tough being a bachelor on this thread.

I was wondering if anyone here has or is using an LG incubator? I have a hatch going on right now (at home while I'm sitting here at work!!!) and now I'm seriously nervous about the heating element burning them when they hatch. I'd been a little concerned but was just reading another thread and now I'm SERIOUSLY nervous!

OMG I Love the inside of your coop!! That is so neat. I thought of using branches for my roosts too but I couldn't figure out a way to attach them. So I used some scrap pieces of board from an old box spring I disassembled; the chickens don't seem to mind. :) That is a really great looking set up, I like it. I don't know how I feel about that color though...hehe

We don't have siding on yet so we just screwed them in from the outside. Hopefully we never have to take them out! Haha Hey! It's a good, fun color!

Taprock - Oooooh you're chicks are so adorable!!! Love those puffy heads!

I'd have to agree here for myself. I have 3 boys that are 3 years 4 months apart total(8,10,11) and we have had lots and LOTS of blood, open body cavities that were never meant to be open. lol I've taken to telling them if they cry and freak out they will just lose more blood and it's really not going to hurt MORE or feel better by freaking out so we should really just all CALM DOWN! Oddly it works.

So pleased to announce that Chicken Fever seems to be biting hubs!! He said the magic words last night : "Now that is a pretty chicken, we are going to have to get some of those."

I started the new rule with the DH a few years ago.. for every one tree you destroy, I'm buying 2 to replace it!! (I hope he runs over a few more)
I love this!

Round, rough perches are sometime a problem, especially for larger birds, as they have to hold constantly to balance and the rough surface may make bumblefoot more likely. A 2X4 layed with the 4" side flat, smoothed off to prevent slivers, makes a great perch, the birds can rest easily on it and pull their feet up under them in cold weather.

Thank you for the insight. The branches I picked are actually pretty smooth although I realized it doesn't look that way in the pics. I was worried about them being too scratchy and rough so I chose smoother ones. We'll see how it goes. I wanted it natural and my dad's roosts are this way with no issues so far.

OK you two, don't make me turn this thread around. Because I will, you know.

I'm really starting to question what I've gotten myself into!

So I made that fateful trip to the farm store today for cat food and other pet related nonsense. I spent a LOT of time at the chick bins but managed to leave without any. It was so hard though! Ahhhhh!

Is there a "gamer" website ? You Know, Like there is one, actually more, for Back Yard Chickens? nlol. I really did come here to find and share info about Chickens. Mine happen to be in a back yard but i don't mind finding out about other types of raising/caring for them. I'm seriously beginning to think I don't have time to wade through all the posts offered in order to find those regarding chickens. And yes, I know this is a SOCIAL thread. Sorry if I offended you and I don't want anyone to be hurt by this post.....but there must be others who are of like thought. IMO Bob
I'm sure there are, but we talk about lots of different things here. Some days it's games, some days it's different pets/animals, some days it's feral hogs, some days it's kids. Usually our non-chicken topics only last a day or two, and we do talk about chickens throughout everything else that's going on. Since it is a social thread, that's why we do that. You should come here to make friends w/all your fellow Michigander chicken parents!! Haha

But if you are looking more for strictly education, I'd probably also consult the threads that are devoted to those sorts of topics. I know I've found lots of helpful stuff that way, but I also come here to chit chat and be silly as well.

You know, I don't think there is one for chicken keeping gamers.
We should totally start one.

Since I got the ticket, I guess I can say...
I'm in Garden City.
Raz! I've missed you my dear.

How's that ticket situation going? I can't remember, did you actually get a resolution on that? And hows your crazy neighbor doing? hehe

So, I told my boss today that Im quitting. She said she was happy for me but I somehow doubt she was being sincere. But who cares, not I. Only 5 more shifts here, yayyy! I'm actually attempting to do a tiny bit of work today. Imagine that? The only thing that'll suck about the new job, and I mean the ONLY thing, is that I won't get to babble to you guys during my work day anymore, hehe.

Well I am up mighty late, but for good reason.
Dad was driving Grandma home from from Florida, and they stopped in to get the his truck. We kept here so he didn't have to leave it at the airport.
I got the chickens to come over and say 'hi' and we talked for a while before they got on the road home. Dad and my Uncle want to try and get the old farm back up to actual farming, talking about starting with an eating cow for this year and seeing where it goes. They grew up farming, so it's nothing new for them. I may talk them into getting a few pet chickens, since they are so adorable and funny.
big_smile.png

I'm happy to hear they want to restore the farm. There hasn't been any animals there for years, the most that got done was growing hay, corn, potatoes and some grains to sell. I have quite a few memories of playing in the barnyard, getting excited about seeing the cows and climbing apple trees.

Anyhow, I should probably try to get some sleep, I've only been awake for nearly 22 hours.

Part of me will regret staying up like this, but it was good to talk with Dad and Grandma.

My arraignment is May 15th. I will be moving for a dismissal.
I haven't talked to the loon since I asked her about turning me in. I saw her peeking over the fence when the trailer fell on the dog. She went right back in the house and I saw her peeking through the window blinds. I think a normal person would have asked if something happened or if you needed help.

Um, yea, key word is normal, she clearly is not. What a weirdo!! She totally has the hots for you, why else would she peep? hehe. I probably would have jumped the fence to help, because I love animals and Im also not a jerk.
