Oh I didn't know the maple syrup fest was this week end, maybe I will have to stop by

We didn't neither till my DD got invited to go with one of her little friends family.

Ah, okay. That reminds me, I have been meaning to ask...

What time does everyone shut their chickens in? They still have access to their run in our set up, I only lock up the run door and leave the coop door open.

My big girls tuck themselves, usually right when dusk starts to set in. My little ones do the same and right around that time is when I go lock the coop down.....no access to the run...Total Lock Down. Ha, ha sounds like prison!

I wish I had an attractive, shirtless farm hand who also cooked and cleaned and rubbed my feet.

Now wouldn't that make doing chores in the rain or freezing weather more bare able!

Well that's it's for now cause I lost the other quotes I was gonna reply too.

Where do you guys that use DE get it from. Today was my second trip to the local garden center and they didn't have any. Shipment will be in on Tues. Any of you ever order it on line? I've thought about doing that from time to time just so I have it on hand especially through the winter when the center seems to stock it away in the warehouse. I hate the thought of paying for shipping.

Good morning HH,

You.are.going to chickenstock right? The pilot( can't remember.screen name at the.moment) Are trying.to figure a way to.get a.couple of my birds to him. If they go to chickenstock,.would you be.willin.g or have room to take a.pair of birds down there?

Oh there it is, b737dvr
Sure or better yet you could just ride along with me.

Chickenstock is about 8 weeks away and there are only 11 people signed up on the pot luck thread.

Please look at the first post to see who is bringing what and then add your very own culinary delight in a reply post. I'll then add you to the list on the first post.

It seems like a long time, but 8 weeks in spring can zoom by before you know it.
Don't forget that we may need plastic ware or napkins etc...

What a crappy day....... had a flat tire on my way home from my haircut. Called my Dad to help me out. When he gets there he proceeds to tell me his PSA is high and he has to see a Urologist (3 of his brothers have had prostate cancer) AND that he had a chest x-ray and it revealed a spot on his lung which was not there when he had gallbladder surgery less than a year ago. Please send good thoughts and a prayer or two our way.
Prayers for your dad

Hello in Rogers City. I love it up there. My brother lives in Onaway. I am here in the "no you cant have those chickens" Southeastern Michigan. I have three hens who keep me supplied in yummy eggs. I hatched 5 eggs in my bator in Feb and March. I believe 4 of them to be cockerls so they cant stay but the one hen will stay. I hope to some day live where I can have 75 chickens and a Rooster too!

Greetings from southern MI.

My wife and I are total chicken noobies. We got a couple of year-old pullets from a friend and put them into their tractor (built by a noobie carpenter -- me again) yesterday afternoon. Just collected our first egg. She thinks I'm a little silly to be geeked out about a chicken egg, but I think it's cool.

Anyway, just wanted to say 'ba-cawk' to everyone.

Some of you may have remember that I had gotten a few Emu eggs, and one of my sister and I saw one of the eggs wiggle! Whoo Hoo!!!

It means that it is alive!!! Only 9 more days to go, as today is day 41!!! Today is day 27 on the other 3 eggs, past halfway now!

Good luck!

Just caled the post office...no chickens yet through there today. Then I called Townline. They said the chicks didn't leave the hatchery until yesterday afternoon. That gives me some comfort, so hopefully tomorrow, but that doesn't give me a ton of time before I have to go back to work for four days...hopefully DW and kiddos will be able to handle them!
Good luck!

I buy it at TSC.

I've found that my birds usually go to roost about a half an hour before sunset so I check them just before dark. Obviously the time is constantly changing.

LF blue orps, b/b/s true ameraucanas, paint Silkies, and I will probably throw a few of my FBCM's in too. The #1588 is bound to work better than the LG piece of garbage that I'm using. I may be up to my eyeballs in chickens in a few weeks. If any of y'all are nterested, I will probably have extra chicks.

HH... The pilot had second thoughts about adult birds, but I may just take you up on your offer to ride together.:)

Well it's an awfully brisk day! My fingers may be frozen for the rest of the day after putting poultry fence all around the run this afternoon. At least it's done now.

I took the "babies" outside to hang with the big girls and much to my surprise they pretty much left them alone. One of the younger EE's tried jumping on a baby but that was it. I also took a picture of Waffles and Cuddles(Isa Brown) to see just how much smaller Waffles is. They are both the same age, 5 1/2 weeks. I love her...she's so sweet.

Here's are the babies foraging with the big girls.

Diatomaceous Earth. It's thought to have anti-parasitic properties. It can be used as a feed supplement and offered in a tub for dust bathing.
