Oh well, at least there is Olive. She was saying just the other day how much she super duper extra special juicy plus wanted a mutt rooster to be BFF with.

I do believe that's precisely what I was saying.

Thank you! There is a TSC about 18 miles away. Nothing really close. I'm not sure how many people from my Twp. go there for anything, but it's worth a shot. Thanks for the suggestion! I need to figure out the first step. I've never done anything like this before, but I am SO fed up lately with the laws it makes me sick. Instead of complaining, I want to do something about it. I don't want to get my chickens and then be in fear every day of losing them.
It's not much of a reason for politicians perhaps, but TSC and FFH are moving into areas that are considered suburban. So they must have some good market research behind their decision to invest million of dollars in areas without "farms".

I'm looking for data showing how backyard chickens are gaining in popularity. Both as "pets" and for wholesome, unadulterated food source. They have chickens at the White House and even Martha Stewart gives tips on how to raise chickens.

Sterling Heights is strict!!! You can't even have a hedgehog!!!
It does list poultry as livestock, and the selling of chicks is illegal. Bummer.

Edit:
You have to have at least 8 acres to have chickens????? Crazy! Your best bet is to plea that they are your pets... even so it states you may not have more that 4 animals per household!!!!

How do you keep track and know who stole who's eggs or what? I'd have to live in my coop to figure the dynamics out!

Well... Skatter and Skeeter are sisters... The only difference between the two is that Skatter has muffs. Other wise, you could not tell them apart. AND They also had a 3rd sister, Scooter who got hawked. Well anyway, I marked Skatters eggs 11 days ago. She was the only one broody in the out back coop. Leila is in the dog coop in the garage.
I went to collect eggs yesterday and Skatter was on the floor ticked off, and Skeeter was in her nest laying... Only when I went to close up last night, Skeeter was still in the box, and Skatter was still p-ed off on the floor. SO, I took all the eggs from Skeeter, and put the marked ones in the bottom nest, put Skatter on them and gave the other 3 back to Skeeter. This morning, Skeeter is holding tight in that nest box, Skatter is In hers... And NOW Skeeters eggs are marked as well. SO, I hope to get the door on the Summer coop done soon, so I can move some of the littles that are not so little to that, and move Skatter to the dog house, and Leila and her 8 to the littles coop, and box Skeeter off again in the big coop when it gets close to her hatching... Unless I get the tractor done... I have 2.5 weeks for that to be done. SO... a week to make a door. LOL. Jeez... don't know if I can handle that.

I can tell from the size, shape, colour and weight of my eggs of who laid which egg. Only possible because I only have 4 of laying age. (Those 2 Uggos better start producing soon, or else!)

I knew chickens ruled the world!!!
How cool! I'm going to name one of my chickens Pangea.

I'll not re-post that last picture. Some people here already think I'm some sort of a pervert.

After Eeyore left here the other day, the small human asked if she could put the goose eggs that the one goose had been setting in the incubator. I hadn't kept track of when she officially started setting and had kind of assumed they weren't viable -- back when they first started building up the nest it was getting very cold at night and I didn't bring them in to save them from freezing. I figured she could slip them in there until I needed to lockdown the turkey eggs and then I could tell her we tried and dispose of them. Welllll, DH just walked down to the office where the bator is, comes back out and says, "Hey, what do you have hatching? Goslings or turkeys?" For a moment I panicked, thinking I'd forgotten to lockdown the turkeys and then it hit me... the eggs ARE viable. Sure enough I have two goslings pipped and cheeping.

So... who wants some American Buff Goslings?
