Farmer, sending good thoughts for your emu eggs.

Raz, just my opinion but I think knowing where the lines are is always a good idea.

Have a great day everyone.

Advice please. I know your mantra Opa - Lockdown means don't open. With my incubator I know opening will endanger the rest of the hatch, however I'm on my last egg so no danger to the hatch. This little fellow was late, he now has a good hole but isn't zipping just making a hole. Well I looked now and he has a claw out the hole with his beak. Will he actually be able to turn to complete a zip if he has a claw out? I've helped out two chicks in the past, one lived one died so I know it's risky.
How many chicks are currently hatched. How long since the first?

Day 21 was Thursday. Everyone hatched a day late. The last hatch was Friday night. Yesterday I was too busy to throw the egg out and clean the incubator so I left it. Last night I noticed a pip.

Anyway after posting last time I decided I shouldn't have asked advice. What ever I do I need to be sure it's what I want and can deal with the consequences. So I took him out of the shell. I steamed up the bathroom - think kid with croup - when it was at 70% humidity I took the egg in and chipped off the shell with the tweezers. The chick was in tight with the inner membrane and it is a big chick. You know how most chicks kind of pop out, this one really had to work at it with me helping. Anyway at first I thought it was deformed which would explain why it wasn't hatching. Now it doesn't look that way so maybe it was just stuck so long it has to stretch out now. Time will tell. Either way it's out now and peeping up a storm. Maybe it's just good he was last, had he been first I wouldn't have taken the risk of opening the incubator.

, bonnie from Chelsea... you're not too far from me!!

Mom, the uggos are so cute! Chickenstock can't get here soon enough!

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

I have a few more things to do to the coop and fencing, and it's finished. the roof and floor needs finished and I need to add the roosts and nesting box, but they're young, so they won't need that right away. I'll have to start on the other coop soon!

We got another used car Sunday for DH to drive to his new job. He starts next week! Since he's on a different shift, I started a new schedule at work so we can see each other a little during the week.. only have to work straight 8's now! Glad my employer is being accommodating.

AH! CG, It doesn't matter the rain. Albeit, I will not be doing ANYTHING to my new coop today. And that is ok, since I kinda sorta really need to take a rest today from doing stuff. HAHA. Right. The rain helps. YOU on the other hand, with the rain, it won't matter. You have the pleasure of your DD for the summer, so it's always sunny in CG's world. LOL. Glad you got her home for the summer. Hope you guys have a fun time when you go on your trip as well. THEN we can set you up with new chicka chicka chick chicks. You really need your own Roger and Leila. Yup.

Tap, you shouldn't have helped that little chicken out. No you shouldn't. At least not so slowly! I wouldn't have thought to take it in to a steamy bathroom, that is a very good idea. Better than a bra! OMG, I would have been so nervous taking the shell off. I haven't had to yet, though. I hope I never do, but if I ever get a generic incubator, I might have to. Until then, I have the real thing... Leila, Skeeter, and Skatter (whose eggs are due tomorrow!)

Skatters eggs are 2 wyandottes, one Skeeter egg and one Fia egg. OH I HOPE FIA'S EGG IS GOOD! Will have another faverolle to work with. AND I hope its a pullet... Skeeter is sitting on 2 Skeeter eggs, 2 dottes and 1 Fia egg. I can't wait to see what those fav/dot chicks look like. Nice thing, even though they are going to be mutts... They are both DP breeds, so dinner is always nice with the roos.

Speaking of roos... I best go call Kapenga. They need to be out fitted for camping in the next week or so. Oh, going to be fun catching them out of the chuckles coop. NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT!

Welcome Bonnie!

Thanks for the good wishes Nova! My daughter is a lovely young lady. But late teens and early twentysomethings are difficult years for kids - remember?
YIKES!
But I still enjoy both my kids, just a little hair raising for about 10 years, from 15- 25ish...YIKES!
