Hope to get a few things done but my day with be hectic so not sure how much will be accomplished. Going with my Dad today when he gets a biopsy. Hoping results come back negative. Then tonight having a birthday party for my newly turned 10 year old Nathaniel. Glad it is nice out that way all those boys can be outside instead of in my tiny house.

Hope you all have a great day today.

Hi Michigan thread. I'm new to the board. And to chickens.

We have three 2.5 week old chicks in a basement brooder. It's looking like our BO is going to be a rooster: wattles sprouting already! And we can't have a rooster (or... legally, hens). I'd like our flock to be 3-4 hens. Our original 3 were from Townline Hatchery, but I'd like to go smaller if we get more chicks. Any suggestions for places near Grand Rapids? Also, is anyone looking for a very young BO rooster-to-be?
Hi Amy,
You can call Townline in Zeeland and ask when you can drive over and pick up some more chicks. It is best that you get your chicks from the same source as your first ones because chickens carry a lot of parasites and illnesses and you can reduce your risk of parasites and disease by buying from a hatchery like Townline and then buying your second batch of chickens from the same place. What do you mean by 'I'd like to go smaller'? If you buy more chicks then buy more of the same kind that you have and do it soon. Because chickens pick on each other sometimes severly and if you put one small chicken in with two larger chickens, they are going to peck it badly. So you need to get chickens that are the same type and get them ASAP so they they are as close in age as you can get them. Otherwise you are going to end up with 2 coops and it does not sound like you are in an area where that would be a good idea. Keep us posted! We will all try to help!

Hey, everyone. Just finished reading up. You all were a bit more talkative today, but beyond all the cute photos I can't really remember any of it. I've been a bit tired all day so I'll chalk it up to that. Despite being tired, I took the time to get the brooders and pens cleaned after work. I took most of the tween group out for a few hours of discovery time and I think they did well.

I have one concern, though, about 2 of my isa pullets. We noticed this afternoon that one of them had a wound on the back of her head and it turned out her sister did, too. These 2 were perfectly fine yesterday so I'm a bit surprised at their condition today. These wounds are the worst I've ever seen. They both literally have holes in their heads from what I can only assume was pecking by the others. I won't get too descriptive of it, but it is bad. This is probably the dumbest question ever asked, but is there anything I can do for these open with no way to close wounds or should I just call it as I see it and find a way to man up and pull the plug on them? I can only assume there will be infection, but they act so normal like nothing is wrong it's making me hesitate a bit. That plus DH is refusing to give an opinion on what to do. This would be my first time culling if I have to and I'm a bit apprehensive. I know it was asked recently, but what is the best most quick way to go about it?
Call your vet and ask for some BAYTRIL. I think the dose is 0.7ml for each chicken twice a day by syringe down the throat. Then spray the wound with blue coat or keep it moist with neosporin.
Keep the wound moist and clean as best you can. They may pull through but they will need the oral antibiotic. Good luck!

Welcome new people!

Amy, I'm not certain what you mean by smaller either. I have some Isa Browns and Easter Eggers that are around 4-5 weeks old and they are big. At two weeks they were nice to the newer chicks but Chicken Grandma is right, pretty soon they might attack the little chicks. I'd offer a couple of my chicks if you like.

Good morning all. We're on day 3 of duck housing and we still aren't ready. I shudder when I think of trying to remodel an actual house and I have vowed to pay a contractor. I am sorry I didn't pay someone to build the chicken coop too. There just aren't enough hours in the day and those chicks have to get out of the too small brooder ASAP. Off to run errands, do housework, go through the torture of school pick up, and then start marking wood for cutting tonight.

This michigan thread is funny people post b s and nonsense about their day to day life over and over again. But if someone has a legitament chicken question needs help they get ignored. maybe I should post about my kids diarrhea and sneak in a chicken question maybe I'll get a response?

I'm looking to add a Ameraucana or EE pullet to the flock if someone could guide me to the direction of a reputable breeder or might have some them self please PM me it would be much appreciated.

That's a bit ridiculous. If you read other posts (like you're claiming we don't) you'll see that several people are helping Amy and teeville with chicken questions and problems. I've gotten lots of good chicken/bird related questions answered on this thread. Perhaps you're not getting a response because people just don't know the answer to your question.

I suppose we should all send you a PM saying "Sorry can't help you" just so you feel you're getting the proper attention?

Fresh... I don't know this person but they have what you are looking for!... I don't even know where you live so I have no idea how far you want to travel to get them... These are in Almont.

My son and I had a good laugh this morning!
This chicken dances better than I do!

This one...

I did not realize that is what the chickens were saying! Good thing my son was in the other room for this one! I thought it was funny!
It is like an old Irish song... sort of...
If you are easily offended don't watch this one...

Well since I am a guest here I can't speak for this group but I will say that it is not just this thread where people talk of "their lives".

Sorry you feel you have been overlooked but sometimes it happens.

Also might I suggest you check in the breeds threads for someone in your area who has what you are looking for.

Fresh, what area are you looking to buy from? It's hard to answer your question because of the vagueness.

Other than that, perhaps you could go to the chickenstock and see if anything there suits your fancy., it's coming up pretty soon and there are links with info under many of these guy's posts.
