I'm sick of tomatoes and zuchini. Greenbeans and corn are still tolerable. Fortunately we planted about eight kinds of squash so there's plenty of variety to choose from there. I don't get tired of all the potatos though. Lots of options for those. And the cabbage was good.

I love this time of year when it starts cooling off. Much prefer having to throw on a sweatshirt in the morning.

Hi to all the Michiganders out there - I haven't been on in quite awhile and that is due to my husband had gotten into a serious motorcycle accident and he was the sole income for the family, so I have had to go out and find a job that was flexible enough for me to be able to transport him to and from his physical therapy and still take care of out 4 children all who are under 6 years old.
I was blessed to be able to find Something that allows me to be able to do what I have to do.... and that is Beauticontrol. I have been able to work around my hectic schedule and still bring in close to our bills every month. What ever we can not cover our parents help us out, and I thank them and God everyday.
My husband will not be able to start work for at least 6 months and up to a year from now, it all depends on how he fairs in physical therapy.
I am turning to my fellow chicken lovers to possibly help me with my business, I really need to book more spas this month (since I am low on the calender) and since this is the only income we have at the moment. Or if you are far away I have a website you can check out the products and buy from there (www.beautipage.com/aforcier ) and the last option is I need 3 people to sign up for the kit and our kit has $500+ of product for only $125 (plus shipping and handling) and you actually do become a consultant with beauticontrol but Beauticontrol lets you choose the type of consultant you would like to be (personal use consultant $100 retail every 4 months, part time spa sister - you do spas when ever you feel like doing it, or a full time Spa diva - full $$$ with part time work)
I feel lost because I am working from 6am till some nights 11pm between physical therapy, school work, dinner, baths, kids, and everything else) My Spas give me that break that I need and it has been a blessing to my family to have been introduced this oppruntunity in a time of need that my family was going thru and it has saved us from possibly losing our home and I thank God everyday from Beauticontrol
if you think you may be able to help in any way, please message me and I will send you any info that you may want, or you can check out my website since it has all kinds of info on it in the top right corner.
Thank you all for reading this in advanced and somedays my chickens are my relaxation time and I am so glad that I found this site that has helped me with any questions that I have had.

Need to make room for new birds.

I have bantam cochins. There are 5 pullets, just started laying. I have a cockerel, NICE, and 1 rooster who is the best baby sitter I have ever seen. $5 each on the pullets, the boys are free.

I also have 5 standard rosecomb RIR cockerels. These birds are from show stock and are very nice. 3 are at least breeding if not show quality. Selling for meat price of $5 each. If not sold they will go in the freezer which would be a real shame. They are 18 weeks old and almost ready for the freezer or to be introduced to your hens.

Willing to deal if someone wants all of the above birds.

I am located in Springport, 49284 which is south of Lansing.

Too many birds and not enough pens.

Hi Michipeeps,

I'm from Lowell,...just E/O Grand Rapids. This time of year is the best, not too hot or too cold!! I just gave away my (4) roosters.

Now I have a large lonely pen, a nice coop and am looking for some young layers of the same breed to stock it with. Most importantly though is that they are good with kids. The young ladies would free range during the day but be penned up at night. Pampered pets! Anyone out there with young pullets of the same breed that need to be spoiled?

You can email me or call at 616 897-9795. They will never be on anyones plate!!!

Thanks!!
Dave

(Nice to see Michigan is so well represented)

As winter approaches I am debating whether to keep my hens under 14 hours of light or just go natural and let them go through a normal winter cycle. I know that the additional light will wear my hens out sooner, just wanting a concensus view.

i prefer the 'natural', simply because God designed them to work that way!

their bodies need a rest just like we do. (if you had a wife or daughter that continually was pregnant you'd probably have a tired lady on your hands.)

the seasons are designed for a reason. i try to stick with that. just my opinion.

and BTW, opa, how's it going!

and also....anyone want to trade some pullets for some meaties? i have 102 babies right now.
looking for any layers. i am north of Lapeer.

I've been trading, buying and selling a few birds trying to get my flock down to 20. I sold Vicki2x2 some Welsummers and a beautiful BLRW rooster with a splash pullet. Sold Tororider some Welsummer pullets, some BA pullets & a cockerel. Bought two gorgeous silver Ameraucana pullets from Wynette. So it's been nice to meet some BYC members and be able to place a face with a name when I go online. Most all of my hens are a few weeks shy of laying age so I am getting anxious for then to start earning their keep. I know I sure am glad that I found this site and really enjoy reading all and responding to many of the posts. Thanks for you input on my post and I look forward to reading your next ones.

Hi All!
I am from New Era, MI about 1 & 1/2 miles from Lake Michigan. An:)yone close to me? Are we awaiting another nasty winter????

I am new to this forum & loving it. I am new to chickens this summer & have been having a blast with them. I have learned so much! I have 1 pullet that I have no idea what she is, & her brother the handsome cockeral who is looking for a new home, 14 young Silkies that are so cute & pretty, 4 Banties & one of those is Violet the mama....she just hatched 15 chicks a little over 2 weeks ago. I am going to have to downsize a bit.

I worry about them in the winter since I am new. I hope they stay warm, electricity is not an option since they share run ins with goats & mini horses.

I would also like to add a few new breeds in the spring & I am definately going to add some laying girls with a new chicken coop to boot!

Anyway, nice to meet you all.

welcome, Cyn!

as per MI winters, your chickens will need to be able to stay out of the weather.

i do think we are in for a cold one this year.

you are out in God's country...west side of the mitten!

again, welcome!
