Hello,

I have to admit I didn't read the 70pages of Michiganders.

We live in Fowlerville, 1/2 hour east of Lansing.

We have a hobby farm. Hubby and I started out with chickens 11 years ago. Laying hens and meat chickens.

Now that the 5 kids are older the chickens are theirs. My oldest owns the most.
*14 -3 yr olds and 1 1/2 yr olds assorted breeds: EE, black austrolorp, buff orpington, SLW.

*1- 1 1/2 yr old buff orpington that is the pet chicken. We took her to the vet this spring, got antiboditics and she survived.

*3- bantams- old english, cochin

*3 doves

*6-bantams lavender Ameraucanas 5months old

* 15- standard Ameraucanas variety of colors 5 months old

*2 cats

* 20 meat chickens 3 weeks old

*20 black austrolorps 3 weeks old

Enjoying every minute of this life. Some think we are crazy.

My oldest daughter has an egg business with her hens.

Hi Wylie Farms,

If you go through E.R. to go to Springport, do you take M-50/99 south of town or do you go down Royston Rd? Depending on where you are coming from, many take Royston Rd. down, if so, you go right by my house!!

Hi opa,
I grew up in Howell. Decided I couldn't afford to live there anymore when I came home from the service about six years ago. Moved up here to Shiawassee County and married into an old family. Now I live on a centennial farm with all the peace and quiet I could ever want. Being from Howell and knowing what people are like in town, I assume you are out in the township having chickens and all. Am I wrong?

I'm on Chilson Rd just south of Grand River. Howell definitely is like the town that you or my sons grew up in. It really is a shame that the people who grew up here can't afford to live here. Glad you found some solitude.

I know the area well. I wouldn't live there anyway, If I could. Too busy. Remember the "good old days" which weren't all that long ago? When I was a kid if you went downtown on a Sunday it was dead quiet and flashing yellow at the intersections. Now it's a circus.

Hey-

Jeff- Did you graduate from Howell then? I did in 1994.

Howell is really different now...use to be you could go somewhere and know most of the people, now that is a rareity. We went to the Melon Run a couple weeks ago and only knew a couple people...there were roughly 700 runners!

If I have to go to town, I head to Fowlerville now a days. We have a Wal-mart there so what more could we ask for?!?

opa- you are right around the corner from our family business, Wylie Soft Water, on Lucy Rd. And there is 7 traffic lights to get there from home...use to be 4.

I graduated in 1995. Although, up until the 8th grade I was class of 94. I did the eighth grade twice. No big deal, I was a bit younger than everybody else. Grew up in Howell and lived there til I joined up and went west. My dad owned Fat Dales on Grand River in town.

Anyone have silkie hatching eggs?

Also, I lived in Howell for a couple years and was amazed at the change in just the two years I lived there, and especially the change since I have moved. And that was in 2003.

Hope everyone had a nice holiday. My oldest son used to live just outside of New Orleans. Now he's in SW MO on a farm with 50 acres. Lots of chickens, goats, horses and mules. This is the 2nd hurricane that he has wound up with a house full of people fleeing the storm. This time the family that came have 5 children. Their Dad got all of them up and started assigning jobs to each kid for the duration of their stay. If you are going to have company that's the kind to have. I sure am proud of the fact that I raised just a big hearted son. I am also glad Michigan doesn't have hurricanes.
