Is there any one around Clarkston who is going to CS that could pick up a rooster for me ? I just recently lost my FBCM, I believe he fell off the roost and hit the bottom board and broke his neck, and Henny Penny04 has one she will give me but she cannot come to CS as she will be out of town. I would gladly pay someone for their gas and their time.

Uugh. doctors.
they get so mad when we "self diagnose", but in the 5 min they have how could they know more than the one living in that body? NOT a subsitute for antibiotics, but mangosteen extract is supposed to be good against staph and i think MRSA too. May help the antibiotic? (Not a mango, mangosteen) Also supposed to help with inflammation, diabetes, and allergies.
I had a mystery ailment once that the dr's couldn't ID, had a circular raised bumpy rash that appeared once a month for a good number of months. When i got it, i felt like i had mono or something. got worse as it went. Dr's only suggestion was to drink less coffee. One thought shingles, but there was no pain at the site. I finally got mad at the inadiquacy and bought the then new xango juice (super expensive, at $40 a bottle) and voila, no more ailment. Won't ever know what the heck that was, but it never came back so i'm happy. They sell the extract seperate now, and i believe you can get several month's worth of vitamin pills for $10. At that time i had low blood sugar also, and i remember that i didn't have the rapid swings when i was taking this.

Aww, so sad on the little chick. It's so puzzling sometimes with them. Mine always get super happy and perky right before they die, just enough for me to relax and think they will be OK. i guess that just means they were well-loved. Heartwrenching though.

Raz- interesting info on the meeting for the ordinance. Glad you spoke out. Hope those in your area are able to have chickens soon. How many places still do not allow chickens? A friend of mine said that there is stil a ban in her city. She said she knows of several neighbors who would like to have them. Anyone know if there is a place to find the cities that allow chickens along with how the ordinance is written up?

You can start with the city's web site. Some will have their ordinances available on-line but you may have to sort through a bunch of pages to find them. Then there is municode.com. That works if the city is subscribed to that service, not all cities are.
For some research, I just called the clerk and asked if they were permitted and could I get a copy of the ordinance.

Of all the caterpillars I've raised, my favourite is the Eastern tiger swallowtail.

hope your DH's foot isn't too bad and that it heals quickly Mom2! My BIL has diabetes, and they've had a few close calls with different things and appendeges.

I really need to order some sand for the sandbox, but I don't feel like calling around to 7 different places to see who has the best price. And WHY does delivery have to cost me 10x what the sand does?!

The chickies didn't care for the cold temps last night. We put the heat lamp in the coop just to be safe. They also haven't figured out how to go in on their own at night, so someone has to crawl under the coop each night to catch them and put them inside.

Juise: I recall you posting a week or so ago about doing yardwork with a child strapped to your back......what carrier do you use? And are you on TBW at all?


I'm trying to figure out how to convince DH to let me pasture chickens next year. We've got 10 acres, so we've definately got the room, and if we built a 10x10 shed and fenced off part of the field........

I'm thinking the cost will turn him off of doing any of it though. I've LOVE to get some BLRWs though. SO pretty. And some EEs for some colorful eggs.

One of my neighbors asked me to help her grandmother for the weekend while she goes on vacation. I was, to say the least, surprised because I, really, have only known her for a short period of time and her grandma means so much to her. I said I was glad to do it. She said she would pay me what I thought was fair. I have no idea what to ask for.
I have to:
Get her up in the morning... out of bed and into her chair, regular morning routine
Empty her colostamy bag
Help her to bed...
Someone else is coming to check on her durring the day. It will be Fri, Sat, and Sun.

On a different note, she, also, gave me a huge thing of clover honey because it tastes different than regular honey... wierd. I LOVE honey!!!! Maybe one day I will get some bees going, too.

I love that Noodle flaps her wings and tries to move faster to keep up with me or to "steal" a bug from me.
Nugget is getting wing feathers in! So little, so cute!!!

The SGs (I can't call them uggos anymore) are afraid to leave or enter the coop. They will learn one day I guess... I haven't put their food in the coop at night and I don't shove them out the pop door in the morning... just to see if they figure it out... They are starving by 11am when I push them into the run. Goofballs!!
I put wooden eggs in their nesting boxes. They are not interested yet but they are ready when they are!
I love showing them off. Their skin is so warm even where it is naked. That surprises people.

With showgirls, do the colors on their faces and the combs make no difference as to whether they are male or female?
Everyone says wait for a crow or an egg but 2 are really different in their blue and red coloring than the other 2. No crowing here yet.

I found this about the black stuff..
The caterpillar makes a simple silk pad on the underside of a branch or twig. It uses a hook-covered appendage called a cremaster to attach itself to this pad. It twists around, embedding its cremaster firmly in the silk. Then, it sheds its skin, revealing the chrysalis. The chrysalis hangs upside down from the cremaster until the butterfly s ready to emerge.
