I finally have the roof over the chicken run finished, except that I have to put a couple of support posts under the four feet extended beyond the end of the metal pole and chain link enclosure. You might be aware of the trouble I have with posts. Cross your fingers for me ?

If one installs a ventilation fan in/on a chicken house, be sure it is designed to withstand the dust it's going to be exposed to. House fans are not. I read that in a book.

Anyone interested in seeds for medicinal comfrey? I can collect some and take them to CS, if so.

You have Blueberries ripe right now?

Sounds like a home in the suburbs might more readily suit your preferences.

It was a joke. ;)
No...I love my home!! that's just the cons of my location!

Living... I haven't gotten them yet. One thing after another here. I go to make an order, and something else pops up! He do have them for me though.

Swamp, I'd like one and the setter too.

katie, try the cardboard during plowing, planting, and harvesting. Heck, have your kids paint pretty pictures on them... Air cons really do keep the smell of manure out... OR, close up, run the fans and an air filter

I am going to have to sit outside, and watch who lays what egg at what time, and let them out of jail after they've laid their egg... Either that, or I need to GO GO GO GO on and adventure and find the nests... Today only 3 eggs were nested, and 4 were in a hole in the corner. AND it wasn't even in any of the favored nest boxes... Sheesh! Chickens.

Roger got up in the summer coop last night, on a high roost. Why is this amazing? Because he normally doesn't get up any higher than a foot. His roost in the garage was an old magazine rack. He was 5 feet up! I left him and his chicklets there. They stick to him like glue at night.

Awesome faucet handle Opa!
love the faucet.!!!

I am in Grand Rapids and have a black cherry tree that was cut down and chopped into pieces. If anyone wants that wood please p.m. me. Some of it is in smaller pieces and some of it would require a splitter to break it up into fire wood.

Okay Opa, I can bring you one.

Was anyone else interested in one of the Duke dog proof traps? Catches you a live coon that you'll have to dispatch the next day. It's uninjured, just gets its hand caught in the cookie jar so to speak. The setter we're talking about is a lever that makes setting the trap easier. DH showed me how he sets the trap without one. I can't do it, I can barely budge it an 1/8th of an inch.

Just let me know by Friday please.
I would also like a trap and a setter $16?

Welcome to the newbies,,,,, don't have a plucker ,we did 7 the other day, if you scald them for about 40 seconds, they seem to pluck pretty fast, we still have 18 to go, hope to get some help with the whole so we can do it in 1 day, can you get some help? maybe offer a couple chickens as pay?

With the rain coming down, reading is the only endeavor that makes much sense to me. In the book I'm currently reading the protagonist speaks about a veterinarian who has a taxidermy shop in one half of his building and the vet clinic in the other. He has a single sign to advertise both that is probably on of the best signs I've hear of. "Either way you get your dog back"

Great sign!... I have a sick sense of humor though...
When I had my buisness I never had anyone ask to mount a pet. It was probably because they were mostly bear hunters and such. I saw on TV they have a "reality show" about people that only mount pets - some kind of extreme taxiidermy?
Awesome! I always have said that when Gunny goes I want to have him stuffed... Noah, on the otherhand, I have said he will be the first to be eaten when the world goes to schit.
They do feeze dry pets (after they are dead)... It creeps me out. Not sure why. Maybe, because they just gut them so they stiill have the bones inside... they are not just fur.

My son would apreciate that one.
Poor chickens...

Freeze drying has been around for some time - I never got into that. I was skin mounts only. A guy I taught started doing fiberglass rep fish ( again, not my style - too many posers with huge Salmon, ha ha). I think I'd have a heart attack if I came home and saw my departed pets sitting around. Sorta like the Bates guy....

Was a powerful storm that blew through here. My entire street is littered with tree branches of significant size.

Broken branches in my tree, and the neighbors' as well.

I need to vent on behalf of my own sweet mother. She has lived in her house for 45 years. She is disabled, and so is my stepfather. She has known the neighbor next door since he was four years old- he is now 49. He never moved out, and his parent moved to a house on the lake about seven years ago.

My mom has put up with him snow-blowing and blows his snow in such a way it hits her front window. He piled the snow from his driveway onto her covered pool and made it collapse. He has never once offered to snowplow her sidewalk, rake, mow- nothing.
He blew leaves in the fall from his driveway all into her yard. When she told him that she doesnt even have a tree in her front yard, he said, "Well, you do in the back and I have to clean the leaves from your tree out of my backyard all the time".

His nasty wife poured gasoline or some type of chemical onto a big bush that grew next to the fence and killed it. He reaches way over and chops the heck out of her lilac bush and anything that goes over the fence in the tiniest bit, he chops WAY into her yard.

They called the city today and reported my mother for feeding the birds. She received a citation. My mother doesnt bother anyone. She suffers from depression- ever since my youngest brother seperated himself from our family, called us monsters- and took his kids out of her life- all she does is garden, feed the birds, and spends time with my teens when they have time. Thats it. I bought her binoculars and a bird book, and she enjoys identifying different birds who stop by during different times of the year. They are her happiness.

The city came- said she cant feed the birds or the squirrels. Told her that her birdfeeders werent "regulation". You know the tray-type so the doves and other ground feeders can eat? NOPE. He said suet feeders attached by a pole were okay. NO birdbaths allowed.

So, I did what any respectable daughter would do. I spent a hundred dollars at the store and bought every suet feeder they had, Went to the garden center and bought the kind of wrought iron plant hangers that you can attach to a fence- and put them all up, all along the wooden privacy fence that separates their yard.

Im sure they will notice them once the smoke clears from their stupid grill that they cook on every night. Thats right up against the privacy fence and is allowed. Mom is very intimidated by this jerk, and doesnt handle controversy well- she protested me hanging the "regulation suet feeders", but I am so furious.

Birds!!! laws against bird feeders! Some people are just crazy! Your poor mom. Really makes a person want to dump a load of rats over his privacy fence.

We just had a storm roll through. Lots of water. I had one poor chicken who wasn't smart enough to get in. My DH got called in to move some downed trees. So he went from work to umping a LL game to work again. Today is our 18th anniversary and I have not seen him all day, and depending on the cooperation of trees and loaders it could be a while. I'm glad we didn't intend to do anything since I had to go to the dentist this afternoon and didn't think I could eat out without looking ridiculous.

I think I am down to only one broody now. I've been letting them out of the small coop for a short time in the evening. Who ever ends up in the nest box at close up time spends the next day in the small coop again.

Your kidding right? There is regulations now for feeding... I mean not feeding birds? BS... Plain ole BS.

About the lilacs... My gran had these big beautiful bushes, she ended up having 6 ft privacy fences behind them, and then kept them trimmed away from the top. You need to catch this guy in action reaching over and cutting her shrubbery. The only way he can do it, is only cutting what hangs over his property line, and only what hangs over his property line. He's treating her like that, cuz he can get away with it. I'd see about extending the privacy fence as far to the front of the property as well. It is against the law for him to blow his snow or his leafs off of his property and on to your moms. I think it is time to invest in a security camera... Put up a sign that says the house is undervideo surveilence. hehe... Small one... so its there... but not IN HIS FACE THERE, and start catching this jerk in the act...

OMG! Are they related to RaZ's neighbor?

We got a lot of wind, but not water...

Happy Anniversary Tap
