i have also been wanting to set up worm composting...let me know if you find anything good!!!

This is a good site for people who want to get into worms (I can't say "people who have worms" - that's just wrong) Any way, you won't believe how much garbage worms will eat - mine usually die. I end up with one or two really BIG worms who have eaten the other worms when I don't give them enough food to eat. It's a vicious cycle.

Wonderful - I thougth I was the only one from Michigan! I live just outside of Lansing/East Lansing - GO SPARTANS _ anyone watch the game last night?? - Anyhoot, I live in Dewitt and we have 21 gals and just love them - am getting 6 buff orpingtons soon !

Boy a chatty bunch again!

Lots of new folks:) welcome and be forewarned: chickens and this site are addicting!

Saw the end of the game, the most important part! On this mornings news 7am, channel 4 Detroit, the game celebrations had ended....I glad that we all know that now!LOL

my daughter is trying to raise worms...will have to check the site out. She wants an endless supply for fishing!

Got a question: My daughter is looking for a feeder pig to take to the fair in mid-July. Do any of you have a pig farm? If so do you have any for sale?
A guy at church is going to Ohio to buy some for his 4-H kids this Friday, so I can add on to his order. Just wondering if there was anything somewhat local.

OK Here is how great the postal system is!

Last Wednesday(4/1) my sister mailed Gretchen's birthday invitations for me at the Fowlerville PO drive threw drop box. (Confirmed with Sister a few minutes ago)
Last Thursday(4/2) afternoon I mailed the last invite since I needed to get the address at the same postal box. This person called yesterday to RSVP for the party, the first one.

At church this morning, I had one mom (who I told about the party) inform me that they hadn't gotten their invite yet. So I called the neighbor whose daughter is invited and they have't got theirs either!

So now I have to call everyone and let them know about the birthday party...which is this Wednesday (4/8). I got the invites out late, so one more thing to add to my schedule today....

I am wondering if someone is playing an April Fools joke at the post office....it's not very funny:(

Funny that you mention feeder pigs that's exactly why I'm on BYC right now! Can anyone tell me what a feeder pig is? We are looking to get a pig to fill our freezer and we don't know what breed to get or where to find one? Does anyone know? Thanks!

Ok in regards to the snow...some one said M-59 area would be hard hit?!?

I live 2 miles west of the start/finish of M-59 at I-96, so does this mean we won't get any?!?! Or we get tons?!?!

Glad I didn't put the snow shovel and salt away yet!!!

Got the chickens delivered to my friend today. She is soooo happy, she now would like me to pick up 4 more and raise them for her until they are ready for the coop! Ha Ha she has crossed over to the chicken side!

Then I meet another chicken friend which is a guy who did some cement work for us and really liked my chickens. He bought 20 of my new chicks. He and his wife are super nice. It is so fun to meet nice chicken people!

Now we are off to Family Farm and Home!

Gloria-

A feeder pig is a pig that is about 3 months old or so. You buy it and feed it for about 3 months then send it to the butcher. Or in our case, daughter takes to fair, show it, then it gets auctioned off and to the butcher.

From who I have talked to the going price is anywhere from $80-$140 depending on the breed.

I think this is where farmers make their money. A finished hog is usually not much more $. When I was growing up in 4-H, you could buy a finished hog cheapier than buying a feeder pig and feeding it for 3 months.

Hope this helps

Sarah

DCM- I really hope the weather man is wrong!!! But I like to be prepared if by chance he is right.

I am thinking I need to cover my strawberry plants...But I really don't want to, the patch is quite large.
