Glambka - my Mom has some Pekin ducks. They aren't that old though so I don't know what age they start to lay. I could collect for you when they do though. She also has some Rouen ducks that are a couple years old. Are those usable? We usually use their eggs for baking. Yummy!

My youngest is grilling me on if our chicks are locked up and safe.

. He's worried about our chicks now. Poor thing.
Yep, Rouen are GREAT....Penkin lay at a year I think....anyone else know??? Keep your chickies safe....

In the past two days, we've gotten more rain here than in the ENTIRE spring. Everything was so parched. It seemed that each and every storm that came this way, suddenly parted and hardly gave us a drop of water.

I am looking forward to tonight's storm. It should be a nice, long soaker that we neeeeeeed.

LOL. That got a laugh out of me. Love it.

My little mille fleur d'uccle roo is now officially a squeaky toy. He started his crow the other day and when I heard it I was wondering where the heck our dog got such a loud squeaky from. He's such a funny little roo.

eta- before anyone worries, the dog is not using the roo as a toy. The roo just sounds like one when he crows.

Busy day and I got a lot done. However I didn't pay too much attention to the chickens, although I was out in the yard most of the day. I went to lock everyone up tonight and am missing one of my little Sebrights. Now to be fair she didn't like me, and she wasn't my favorite either but I feel awful that I didn't notice her missing earlier. DH and I checked trees but no sign of her. I'll get up first thing and do the walk around but I have this feeling she is gone for good. I know I was bringing her to CS but I still feel awful.

My little coop was full of little flies tonight, not blackflys, much smaller but they were biting me. They were crawling all over the chickens. I don't know what to do for them now. They must just come out at night because I haven't noticed them any other time but tonight I was out there after dark.

2 more days until Chickenstock!! I am getting pretty excited and cant wait to see all of my backyard chicken friends.

Going to be a busy mornin'. Took the chickens out of their bath and after they quit dripping they'll go in the smoker. Then it off for berry picking. Hopefully I'll be finished before Granny gets up. Since Hope must go help her son with the twins Granny will get drafted to help with making the raspberry freezer jam. Actually keeping her from helping would be next to impossible. Being busy and then at the end of the day being able to sit back and look at the results of your efforts makes for a good day.

before I forget AGAIN, Jen your rabbit is beautiful!!!

also is any one interested in Kefir, it is a probiotic very good for people and chickens. I got my grains from a BYCer in California several yrs ago,,,,, I have extra grains I can bring Sat. can be made with any kind of milk I use 2% with coco nut milk, I have heard fresh from cow, goat ect. is best.....you can also get water grains don't know if milk grains can be turned into water grains????,,the grains continue to grow so you always have some to pass along to friends.
If you go on line you can see how to do your kefir. I keep mine in the fridge(all the time, started doing this 1yr ago) it seems to do fine does slow down the process a bit but that is good for me, as I could not consume the amt I was getting every 3 days
