I had a wonderful time at CS and enjoyed seeing everyone. I really think we need to try to swing this twice a year though! I had company up from PA and we arrived late and took off early. I came home with some more Hoppes from Raz (Thanks again!) and a cute willow tree...still trying to figure out where to put it. (what kind of willow is it again?) It was good to see you again Mom2 and Theron and to everyone else! I really felt bad rushing through everything but this whole weekend as been a blur up until my company left at noon today and I took a nap. I've got one more batch going into the hatching incubator tonight. I've got one last batch in the big bator that's due next week and that will be it for me for a while. Some of the eggs for the last hatch are from GA from the lady who sent me some and I only got 1 chick out of 30 eggs. I candled them and about 20 of the 30 she sent me this time look great. When I first got them this time I let them sit for 24 hrs so there doesn't seem to be the floating air sack problem like last time. Crossing my fingers for a good hatch this time because I won't ask for more again either way.

Welcome Bandi Leigh. Do your best to ignore offers for Uggos... They tend to be a bit roo-ish. If you get anything that originated from Mom2EmAll's, then you have the fear of being gifted with early morning crows. Except for me, of course. I got guaranteed hens. LOL.

Olive, was kinda hoping to meet you yesterday. I say kinda, because as funny and educational as you can be, on some deeper level, I also fear for my ears... or eyes since they do the reading. But I would have liked to meet you.

I went and put the birds away tonight. I have to keep putting a random hen back in the chuckles coop. I am thinking I may as well just force Criptoe to move to the big coop. She is the only one who still uses it at night. During the day, more and more hens are using it as the giant nest box. There is only 1 nest box in it, and 4 in the big coop, and 1 in the silkies coop (That no one has used since the massacre, and I did move it, and clean it out, and only the dinners keep escaping to chill out in it with the silkies from mom and they don't seem to mind the big oafs at all), but they all go in the chuckles coop and lay their eggs over in the far corner so I either have to A) climb my fat arse up in there; or B) find a rake and carefully rake them out of the corner.

Loralie decided that she was going to drop her first egg tonight. Yes... tonight about 7 pm. Rod Stewart stayed with her for a while, hurrrrrrrrrrrring at her, helping her dig her little nest. He's such a sweet boy, until he gets up after the girls in one of his I can get it moods. OH! Speaking of THAT, ROGER! OMG! I know I say he has a home for life, but OMG! This dang bird gets Vanna cornered tonight in a very small space, and then proceeds to get them both stuck! If my neighbors hadn't been over trying to get their guineas out of my coop and run, I wouldn't have noticed them jammed in this small space between a old desk, the old dog house entrance to the garage and the wall of the house. I mean, what the heck was he doing so bad that Vanna tried to escape by going into a space she couldn't get out of! Freaking Roger. I wander....

Well anyway. I am seriously bush whacked, so... I know I say I am going to go to bed... but.. I am not really. I will lay there... tossing and turning because my feet and my knees and my hips are killing me today... SO, I might still be back here surfing BYC, reading different things... Seeing what I can glean for future misinterpretations.

Hello fellow Michiganders! I am from the Upper Peninsula, near the Wisconsin border. I am new to raising chickens but I am already addicted! My family got our first chickens from the Iron Mountain TSC during chick days in may. We got a dozen chicks. 7 Barred Rocks, 3 Red Sex-Links and 2 Buff Orpingtons. We started off with 12 because we kinda figured some might die but here we are several months later with the same 12 chickens! And plans for increasing that number next spring! Yepp, we are just starting to understand the whole chicken math thing. All I know is that we need a bigger variety of chickens running around the yard. hehehe I just love how many shapes, sizes and colors they come in!

I think next spring we are going to try and get some Silver laced wyandottes, EEs, RIR, and maybe some Leghorns. OH, and maybe some more orpingtons, and austraulorps, welsummers, jersey giants or any other breed we can get our hands on! lol

I have also been trying to convince the rest of the family that we should get some ducks or turkeys, or OSTRICHES! but no luck so far...anyways everyone that I have met on BYC so far has been soooo helpful and my chickens and I really owe BYCs for the knowledge they have shared with me. I love this site!

I am surprised I am still awake. I got home about 7 pm last night, had some left over pasta salad for dinner and crashed about 10. Other than one old lady trip to the loo around 4 am, I slept till 7. Yesterday was exhausting! But fun!

RB - If I have to have an Uggo, you have to have an Uggo. Besides, we've been looking for an excuse to have lunch... I'll bring you a couple next time I'm in The D.

Awww, Nova. This makes me sad. (Yes, Olive has "sad".) I really would like to meet you, too. I know I come across strong, but I'm not so bad. I will try hard to make it next year... summer is just so danged busy and chickens so far down my priorities list. Now ya'll make a pig gathering and I'm there. LOL! Seriously, though, I'll try to make it. I've had the great pleasure of meeting many BYCers -- Chickflick, KrisRose, EeyoreD, Theron, Daron, etc -- and I've thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.
