Here allow me to sum this up for you all: Coons like quick, easy, abundant food. Any old trash will do. Got leftovers from dinner? Stick it in the trap. Got old eggs? Stick them in the trap. Did your kid forget you stayed up until midnight packing lunches and brought home his lovingly packed turkey sandwich? Stick it in the trap. These are not Hell's Kitchen chefs we're talking about. They're varmint. They just want free food, they don't care if it's a little spoiled or tastes like donkey.

I'm home from my pre-trial hearing. The city attorney/prosecutor said that he signed a "no reduced plea" order and that I could not use MRTFA as a defense even though I never said a word about using it. He did all the talking. He then said that the GAAMPs say that no poultry are allowed in high density areas. I said that I have read it and he interupted saying that he knows "more than I'll ever know" about the RTFA and GAAMPS.

It looks like they are going to be taking a hard line on this.

I also found it odd that we had a visiting judge (Brookover) who only asked me if I wanted a bench trial or a jury trial.
So it looks like I'll be having a jury trial in my future. I have to back for another pre-trial meeting on July 17th.

The funny thing to me, is that the fine is only $20 but they want to make this a criminal case.

21st. District Court case # 12GC1470 OM. (in case anyone wants to look)

I should have known how the day would go when the police officer came to the house at 8:30 am after getting a noise complaint from Crabby. Said that the rooster had been crowing all morning starting at 6:00 and been crowing for weeks. He is 18 weeks old and just started to try to crow on Friday. I heard him today around 7:00 and I had to laugh.

I should also mention that Crabby, her husband and daughter met with the prosecutor first and were in the court room before I was called in. I got the dirty looks when they walked past so I smiled and said good morning. It was also odd that the bi-polar guy on the other side of me was there too and the old man who followed me home from the council meeting last week.

Perhaps being in the paper has some down sides. The crazies are coming out of the woodwork.

Raz - do me a favor. Can you get me the names of the prosecuting attorney, judge, and the police officer that visited you? I want to see if my mom knows them. Maybe she's got some advise.

Good luck man. Sounds like no fun. Is it beer-thirty yet?

I did stop for a 12 pack on the way home.

But I put on another pot of coffee for now. I need a boost before I tackle the coop, run and yard work.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. With all the "real" crimes going on, you would think they have better things to spend money on prosecuting. Our taxes at work!

Raz, you might think about running this by a lawyer, if for nothing else to find out what the crazies are telling the prosecutor, I should think you were legally entitle to know what they're saying, they are probably lying through their teeth about all sorts of stuff to make you look worse. Perhaps you can get that info without a lawyer, I don't know, But good luck.

Sillychicken has launched a thread for the 2013 Chickenstock if anyone wants to start talking about it over there. She's gotten no responses so I figured no one knew about it. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/681654/michigan-chickenstock-2013-planning-ahead

I was wondering if perhaps we should have a 2012 Fall Fowl Follies thread as well for anyone who wants to discuss the possibilities in more depth? (has anyone tried to say that phrase out loud? it's hard!) I'm quite willing to start one being one of those northerners...

Got to go get ready right now to take my beater truck in for muffler work though. *sigh* had the blasted thing about 2 months since my other car was declared too dangerous to drive and it's just not cooperating! &%$#*($@@$!!!!
