Just grossed me out!

Hot again. Had another storm blow thru last nite. Very windy and the rain just pelted the windows. Coop was a bit wet this morning. Guess the girls got a shower in the process.
Sorry, RaZ, I know you hate when people don't spell out "through". Oh well, lol
Keep Cool!

That little storm that the rest of you got was a big storm here. The front edge came in sounding like a freight train and actually woke both hubby and I up. We both thought it was loud enough to have been a tornado and got everyone up and moved to safety until we could find out whether or not there was rotation with the storm. That lasted about five minutes until the power went out. There was no rotation, but it managed to uproot trees, break limbs, rip a fair-sized patch of shingles off the roof of the house, throw the alpaca's hut 75 feet across the property where it landed square on the garden fence, and use a few other objects as projectiles. I have not looked at the damage to the actual garden yet. I don't think I want to know. On the bright side, the power restoration didn't take too long. Went out about 3 am and was back on about 3:30 pm. I fear for the farmers who don't have their wheat out yet.

Well we all have our little peccadilloes.

I wasn't thinking that the cockerels might be tough and stringy. Might have to try the crock-pot instead of the grille. I shouldn't have had them split, I could have done a beer-butt chicken on the grille.

BTW, they dressed out at 3.01 and 3.11 pounds. I guess that's not bad for 20 week old birds. They sure seemed much bigger when I put them in the crate.

One of the young BSLs willingly submitted for a groping this afternoon.

Maybe I'll be getting eggs from her soon.

No way....that raccoon did not look appetizing at all! As for the beaver, I've never had it but DH has & liked it.

We got rain showers off & on all day Tuesday. Every time I looked out the window ALL the chickens were out standing in it.....Probably felt so good to them. I know I wouldn't want to be covered in feathers in this weather!!

What do you guys think would be a good price to pay someone who is tending to my flock while I'm gone for a few days? He's thirteen and does a does a good job. He will have to change the water 2X daily since it's so hot, will have to come over & open the coop, collect eggs, give an afternoon treat, come back & lock up. It will be a total of 6 trips he will need to make. I can't remember what I paid him last time but I do remember he got a haircut out of the deal and got to keep all the eggs he collected.

Any suggestions because I'm clueless

......I've never even had to pay a babysitter for my kids, family was always available & willing.

Minimum wage+ and in cases of frequent, but short trips I'd do a minimum. So if it only takes him 15 minutes to fill waterers, but he spent 30 minutes getting there and back, having to walk or bike in the heat, etc he's not only getting paid for 15 minutes; instead you pay an hour minimum for each trip, for instance. I think it's important to instill a sense of worth for work early and the only way to do that is to pay them what they're worth. If he's doing a good job he's worth at least a minimum wage employee.

Last night's stakeout went well. We did lose a couple birds to heat exhaustion though. We have ice in two liters, fans, frozen treats, mister. Since it is supposed to be hotter tonight, we are having stakeout #2.

Same here! I had to redo most of my garden; peppers, beans, tomatoes and even some of the corn was all laying flat. Half of my sunflowers were broken too. But, by some miracle, my pool floaties were still in the pool
