I love Thursdays!!

I have an egg customer that comes every other Thursday to buy all the chicken and duck eggs that I save for a week. He comes pretty far (I don't remember where he's from) because no one else will save them for him. His daughter is a baker and his son is a cook. They love our eggs and he's been doing this for a few months now. I still have a few other regular customers that I sell to. I felt bad because I only had 5 doz chicken and 5 doz duck this week (a few left over from last week) because of the heat.

I have this neighbor a few doors down that has dozens of chickens and ducks. We gave him a few roosters last summer and he said he THROWS AWAY almost every egg he gets. He just sells the birds for meat. I was flabbergasted when I heard that! We told him we'd go down there and clean coops if he'd give us the eggs but we never heard back from him. I've been tempted to send him a letter (he's a very odd sort, you can't just go to his house) because I'd love to have more to give to my customer Marc! We even offered to sell them for him last year and only take a percentage!

Welcome back, Opa! I've missed having your morning coffee in my afternoon.

MSue - Lol at eggs everywhere, I keep mine in a basket on the counter and have only had one "incident" so far... (cross fingers)

Silly - Sorry you didn't get into the final 3, but I still think it's pretty **** awesome that you were in the top 10! I second whoever asked if there was someone we could check them out.

Babigyrl - I like how that spiral looks, too, but you would either have to remember where you were, (not going to happen for me,) or manually move every egg down every time you use them. That's what I really like about the egg skelter, they rotate themselves.

Right now I put my new eggs around the outside of the basket, and take from the middle. As I take from the middle, newer eggs roll in, so they sort of rotate. It's a pretty inexact science, though, and mostly depends on going through eggs fast enough that I don't really need to worry about what I'm using anyway.

We went to see painted rocks and Tahquamenon Falls once on a family trip when I was younger, and looooovvvveeeddd it, beautiful!! We all spent a whole day at painted rocks sketching. Uhh... my family is pretty nerdy. Thanks for the compliments on the dolls! I hadn't thought of putting them on the blog, I didn't do a tutorial which is what I usually post, but I don't really think they need one. I could use the content, I don't really have time this time of year for extra projects, let alone putting up blog posts. I just put my first post since the beginning of May up a couple days ago, lol.

Keyt - I would happily buy it if I had the money, hehe. I have been waiting for my FIL to tear a barn down forever, (excavator) I am so jealous! I keep checking freecycle and craigslist, I want to build a nice big dinner table out of it sooo bad.

Nova - Hope your head feels better.

Kinda hard to tell which way is up!

I need one that rolls deviled eggs into my hand, ha ha!

Now... a potting shed or small green house might be neat though. Especially a green house made with the "antique" boards and some old windows. Well, you volunteered, when you making me one? LOL!

Ooo ooo, sign me up, too! They're free, right?

All the eggs are good! I bandleader floated.

Hahahahaha!!! ...wait, what?

Hi Nigellas! Bout time you came back around..

Soooooooooooooooooooo...

Are you going to let The Doctor and the Mangy Squireel make some Uggo babies so we can see what the NEXT generation brings????
:) That depends on if The Doctor behaves himself. We've never had a rooster (and we technically aren't allowed them, lol), so he can only stay if he's not too bothersome and rude. But if he stays I'll be sure to pass their spawn back on to you, lol ;)
I did, I did.

I couldn't believe someone else didn't pick them but I sure am glad. Are they LF or bantams ??
Oh yeay! :) I'm glad they got a good home. I'm pretty sure they are standard size, but SillyChicken will know for sure since teh eggs came from her... Silly?

I need some advice.
The place that I want to put the coop and run was a spot where I'd put wild violet and lily of the valley divisions. I just went through and dug up big clumps of the lily of the valley, but because it's so dry, a lot of the plants had died and dried up. I went through the ground and dug up a lot of the root system, but I know I missed some. The ground is as hard as a rock right now, so this is no easy task.

I also know that lily of the valley is toxic to chickens. So...

Do I totally dig up the area and churn the dirt for several days, making sure all of the roots are gone? Or would that be more work than necessary?

I guess I'm seeing just about every plant on the toxic list, and I'm wondering how concerned I should be about them having access to this plant in their run.

NOOOOOO, don't cookst the precious, you ruin it, RUIN IT!!!

I read somewhere that naked necks have thinner skin, and finer meat so they make a superb roasting bird. I told himself I wanted some to try but he said no. Since when did "no" mean anything anyway. The dog ignores "no" so why shouldn't I?

Aren't Uggos some kind of naked neck type ? Are they tasty, my precious?

Breaded and cooked, they would be called "Uggets".
