I almost bought some but
very expensive
and vague directions on it
Such as ... a few drops in affected eye
It says it is for dogs, cats, horses... So I thought a "few" drops for a horse would be different that a "few" drops in my dogs eye.
I f it works as good as this person claims I might have to add it to my emergency kit...

Chicken Grandma - Rather than respond directly as to whether or not you should water your lawn I'd like to arm you with some information: The U.S. is buckling under the warmest 12 months it has experienced since we began recording temperatures, most of the nation is under a drought. Just to the south of us, in IL, farmers are able to stick their hands down into the cracks in their fields because it is so dry. The heat and drought have led the USDA to declare huge portions of the U.S. -- including much of the grain belt -- under a natural disaster. Farmers are losing their stock and their crops and many will come out the other side of this bankrupt. Food prices are rising rapidly already and will continue under the pressure of low yields, making it difficult for more families to afford their groceries as early as this fall. We are, essentially, as close to The Dust Bowl as we've gotten since it ended. Regardless of how it looks, do you think you should be watering your lawn?
Very well said Olive!

Raz - Do you have a permit from the DNR for the little skunk ? If not, you will be hard put to find a vet to do that surgery on him. I use to rehabilitate wildlife and every time one had to go to the vet I had to have paperwork to accompany it. I was told by several different vets that whenever a wild animal comes in they have to automatically euthanize it or if they get caught they would lose their license. I have had several young raccoons to the vets in the past and each time I had to show papers before they would even consider looking at it. Just saying. Oh, and good luck with the DNR. They are idiots.
Yes they are!

Hey did those girls make it to your house ok?

Can anal glads become an eternal syst above the anus? My neighbors dog has this bulge that is the size of a quarter at least. The vet they took him to said it is an anal gland that is swollen...??? I felt it and I thought I could feel his anal glands where they are supposed to be but they were not full or inflamed.
The vet gave them 2 options : leave it or surgery... and he is too old for surgery.
I told them to have another vet check it out to see if it could be drained instead of cut off.
He sits on it and it does not hurt him.
I have seen inflamed/swollen AGs before and they hurt the dogs.
Any advice would be helpful... If needed I will post a pic.

Mom2 and anyone else that might know...
they can become blocked and rupture. That is painful. It could be inflamed. We have had to do surgery on the chronic ones. Does the vet say that he wants to infuse or remove? There has to be more to the story...why would the vet say leave it? Is he on medicine? Why would the vet say surgery? What did he predict would occur if they leave it? Surgery is never a fun thing- many times, as in almost always, they are then incontinent for a long time.
Are you sure its not an anal tumor?

I did not touch her in any way, she is just...reallly mad, all the time!
heh heh heh...she is an angry bird!!!!
He weighs a ton!
I'm convinced that he is blind in his right eye. It is still cloudy and he reacts more to sound than visual cues. The new habitat is bigger and brighter but he has a hollow log to hide in.
I'm still waiting for my vet to get back with me about de-scenting him.
Skunks have very poor eye sight anyhow, so thats nothing unusual. If that eye is still cloudy, its probably a scar, probably cant see out of that one.

Maybe there is some one here with more experience than I that can explain this to me... I was just on another thread, I like to see what I can learn... And a lady suggested filling a new mama's nest with ice... Let me back up. A first time broody has hatched out 2 of her 3 egg successfully between yesterday and today. One hatched and died. So, the mama hen has still not left the nest with the 2 surviving chicks to take them to the feeder that has been set up for them, oh what to do... a person suggested to take the chicks out of the nest, show them the food and water throw the broody off the nest and fill it with ice so she won't go back to it... Is there a valid reason to do something so stupid? The original poster was worried that the broody hen wasn't preforming as its her first time with this... I told her to leave the mama alone, nature knew what it was doing... But to fill a nest with ice?
Chicks can be shipped acrosss the country without food and survive, so not sure what this person is worried about? My broodies always hang out a couple days before they leave the nest with their babies. HOWEVER- if she has eggs under her, she may be waiting for them to hatch. Those should be removed.
Only one time did I intervene with a 'stuck in broody mode' mama- It had been three days, I added a feeder/water dish next to her so the babies could get food.
That didnt work because they stayed hid under her, so I picked her up and set her down on the ground and then I put all the babies down with her, and I walked away. She went right to the feed and did the mama-talk, no problem.
Mama takes her babies back to the nest to sleep at night, so I wouldnt recommend adding ice.
