I have a house full on our 40 acres. Live 14 miles from Lake Superior.
We have 4 dogs and 5 cats... and now the 5 chickens. This is my first time with Chickens of any kind. I went with hardy types and everything I read said the Black Sex links are very hardy and good layers.

I LOVE my chickens! The girls are just the neatest thing. SMART. We are fencing in another portion for them to eat down. They have ate all the grass and anything that is green around their pen. What I find amazing is how deep the holes are they dig! I didn't know chickens dug holes!
Mine love grass/weeds. I have been using the weed eatter to get them grass for the last few days... soon as they hear it start they come running!!

Very pretty birds. :jumpyHow old are yours?

Question: What type of feed is that in the feeder?

[/img] It is amazing at how quickly they become accustomed to us. Mine know that when the door to the run is opened there is going to be something special for them to eat, so they all come at a dead run anytime we even walk near it. Glad you found this site.

Hello all you wonderful fellow Michiganders! I just realized that I never properly introduced myself in this thread...I just started posting. How rude of me! I thoroughly enjoy this thread, reading about everyone's "chicken adventures". Anyway, my BYC page tells all the technical stuff about me , but here's some more good stuff ...my chickens. I am currently raising Black, SL and GL bantam cochins and a few silkies. And thanks to miss_jayne, I now have 4 gorgeous EE pullets. By the end of the year, I will have my first pair of Buff Colombian Bantam Cochins. Currently in the incubator, I have blue bantam cochin eggs from FrizzledHen (MI) (we're soooo excited about those little darlings!), Buff Orpington eggs from HinkJC (PA), and Delaware eggs from Shortcake1806(VA). And I'm getting ready to order true Ameraucana chicks from John Blehm for the spring. By the end of October, I will begin selling extra Delaware and Buff Orpington chicks, if anyone is interested. And by spring/summer '09, I will have several varieties of purebred hatching eggs for sale, and maybe some chicks. I also want to emphasize how happy I am to be a part of this forum, and to be a Michigander. Everyone I have met/talked to on this forum have been so extremely wonderful. So thanks to all of you...even those people I haven't met yet!

Hello Michelle. Sounds like you will be joining the chickaholics groups.

I remember when I first started with chickens. The want for more is so over powering. One day I woke up and realized I had 250 chickens.

Michelle.I'm glad that you have started posting on the Michigan thread. I know that I sure have enjoyed reading everything that our fellow Michigan BYCers have posted. I've met a few of our fellow posters and hope to meeting many more. I'll look forward to your posts.

Oh great, Miss Jayne is talking about me now? I only met her once! And now she's talking about me already? Great, what did I do now? Hope it wasn't all bad! Ha ha! No, I'm just kidding with ya Miss J.

Yeah Michelle, I'm only a couple of miles from her. She waved at me the other day and I went outside to wave back but DH's big red pole barn was in my way, couldn't see a thing but Red.

Miss Jayne!

Glad to see Brown City chime in! I thought I'd be the only one here that lives way out here in the sticks! Miss Jayne is a real sweet lady, glad I met her. Maybe we can meet too one of these days.

Don't know Michelle. I've never heard of it. Give me details girl! Sounds like lots of fun!

I wonder if Miss Jayne is going? Maybe we could all go together! Miss Jayne, where are you girl? Doesn't that sound fun?

) I think the hours are 7am-7pm. I might also have some silkie and cochin chicks to pick up there as well.
