Quote: I've yet to need to put one around/in the coop. So far no problem there. Typically I use a 5 gallon horse water bucket down at the barn. It provides enough height even with water to keep anything that falls in from getting back out. My barn cats are doing an awesome job though, and I haven't needed to set one up this year. I probably wouldn't put it in an area where chicks could get to it though.

Bob, it won't hurt to separate your broodies. Even if it just means putting a divider between the nests. The reason is that they can compete each other off the nests and eggs can get kicked around inadvertently in the process. This is especially true if one has chicks hatching before the other. They can compete for the chicks and forget about the eggs. As for the eggs, 10-14 days is fine. Most will tell you 10, I've set them even over 2 weeks old without issue. I figure the geese and turkeys collect for much longer than that themselves and they don't have any issues.

These Gals are seemingly competing to see which one can spend the greatest amount of time on top of the other in one of the four nest boxes available. You confirmed the time line i recall havig read in several places. They must have been correct ! Thanks....

There is no expectation of privacy on a public forum. Just as there is no expectation of privacy in a grocery store. If you don't want something used against you don't post it.
x 2. Sorry, but I have to agree with Olive. There is no privacy agreement for what we post on here. Sometimes, I think that people start to feel like they are only talking to friends while on these pages. In reality, most people on here are complete strangers that you will never meet or know. That doesn't even take into count the 'guests' that visit the pages.

I'm a member of several American Pitbull Terrier forums and can tell you that this info posted can and WILL be used against you for search warrants and in court. Big brother/feds are always watching and sometimes try to get people to post incriminating things. The difference there is they will come and take your dogs, kill them, then admit they don't have enough evidence you fought your dogs but by then its too late. It has gotten to the point that anyone asking a historical question puts "for historical purposes only" before their question. The internet is a dangerous place and must be treated as such.

I may be out of line in asking this, but I'm not going to give up my chickens or freedom without a fight. I believe that I have a few rights still remaining.
I posted the comment below, addressed to the moderators, about using BYC comments by those entities seeking prosecution for whatever reason.

Agree with me or not, I would like to hear comments. Debate is a good thing...or at least it used to be.

you are right, as my DH and Grand son reminded me....when I was going to pick some one up from a forum for a seminar..."you really don't know this person are you nuts??"

I must be really tired. How can one use copyrighted material without permission? For whatever reason?
Think of text books, they cite people all the time. The big difference is reliability. If they are using only what was posted on a social forum I don't think a judge would find that by itself reliable. But using it to gain information to go find more evidence, well there is no stopping that.

We had a good rain and lots of lightning last night. I don't know how much rain because the wind knocked over my rain gauge. DH got called in for about 4 hours of work during the night, to cut up downed trees. We still had power but some others did not. It is a cool start to the day because it is still cloudy. And I am thankful because I can't work in the garden!

Had a heck of a storm last night. Big oak came down in my back 40 - good deal because now I have a new stash of wood for making maple syrup next spring. I hate picking an oak to cull so whenever mother nature decides it's a big favor to me.

Good morning Michigan. Got some thunder lightning and rain in the wee hours here, too. Don't know how much we got, but it got the deck wet and with the huge maple normally keeping it dry it must have been a nice cloud burst. I probably ought to get myself a rain gauge, nah, that's too much effort. It's enough effort getting back into the routine now that my friends have left. I enjoyed being chauffeured around playing tour guide.
