And Chicken Grandma-
I agree with all things you said about the buttons! I used a soft-screen top on their tank so they couldnt scalp themselves as well...and for tiny little things, the boys sure can crow!

The pheasants and quail are here!!!
7 greens
4reds
20 ringnecks
And 6 little quail!
I'm thinking of crossing a red with a green and coming out with a new Christmas pheasant..... lol :lau

Both Remington and Winchester offer products that will end a cat's predilection for spraying or urinating indoors. Only one treatment needed.

hhmmm, himself would agree with you except he wouldn't wait for the urination. With cats, he prefers prevention.

Oh ya, of course they will be Northern Bobwhite. I know where I can get a couple hundred or of eggs.

Ummmm.... I too have a great release place and you'll contribute greatly to the happiness of a child if you pick mine, not just some pesky old husband.

Oldest DD wants to start bird hunting.

Is it too early to make a christmas list?

I hope not, mine already totals a few grand.

my feelings exactly. What irritates me are people who have "outdoor" cats and then post on CL saying they haven't seen them in 3 days and it's their baby and they're so worried...well if you want to know your animal is ok then don't let it roam all over!!!! Anything that comes into my yard is subject to a blast. I have too much time and money into my animals to have someones cat/dog harrass, kill or eat them.

I am seriously thinking of buying a couple hundred eggs and incubating them and raising them and then releasing them.
Hey Robin!!! How are those eggs doing? Are we getting close to lock down? :)

We have had button quail! They are adorable but not friendly and here are a couple of other reasons why I rehomed mine ----

The males are very very loud! Like a rooster crowing in your house. At 5 a.m.
Also, if you don't keep them in pairs or separate the males and females, the males will harm each other just like roosters do!
Ours also jumped straight up in the air on a daily basis and we had to create a soft topped cage because one hit it's head so hard on the top of the 3 ft wire cage that it bled.
They run and then they go BOING UP AND DOWN like pogo sticks.
They have a musky smell that can inflame allergies.

O.K. good luck to you!
Maybe I will stick with cots then...

I think we may have found a home for Penny!

I'm concerned that 2 hens won't be able to keep each other warm enough in the winter. Or... maybe I'm just catching a little bit of the chicken math bug. But really... will 2 generate enough heat for each other in a 4x3 ft. coop in February?

The quail links have me grinning. They're so absurdly cute.

Hey Kim - Check out Snowflake Bobwhite and tell me what you think of them. They are so purdy LOL
they are so pretty! however, they are PRICIER than the regular bob white..you will have to post/send me pictures when you get them!

Are pheasants hard to raise? I always wanted to try (not 31!) PHEASANTS BUT ALWAYS SEEING THEM WITH BLINDERS ON SCARED ME OFF, oopz not yelling apparently I just cannot type on my keyboard.
Maybe I will stick with cots then...
aww no dont let a few sentences scare you off- they have the tiniest eggs, are a hoot to watch run around *in a cage or aquarium* and come in a multitude of colors. many many many colors. They are the robo hamsters of the quail world.
I have never done bob white before- only the cots and buttons, so I will tell you as I go along on how they are.
