That sounds so good, Opa! I think I'll give it a try today. I'm so cold today I went and pulled out my long john shirt a few minutes ago!

a word of warning from someone who bought from this person...don't.

i live in this same little town. out of 5 people that mentioned buying from him, (and me) we all got sick birds. i lost an entire flock. another girl had 50 sick birds. another, 30 sick birds. the list goes on.

he brings in tons of birds and turns them over very quickly. no quarantine. if i only knew then, what i know now. when i called him the morning after bringing my birds home, and let him know they were sneezing his reply was, "_ _ _ _ happens. Someone walked through my run a few years ago and my whole flock got sick." the story others have heard was that someone, LEFT, yes, LEFT sick birds in my run. his business practices leave something to be desired.

i literally live 5 minutes from there and order my birds or drive out of my way now.

if you notice, he has tons of ads everywhere selling them. literally, his driveway is lined up with people buying birds, hand over fist.

we all find out the hard way sometimes. hopefully, this will help someone else not make a mistake that is avoidable.

i think what is sad is that almost every time someone finds out i have chickens they ask, "where did you get them, i got some and they were all sick..." and then they go on to tell me they got them there and the trouble they went through. it's disheartening.

i don't believe gossip is worthy of passing, but knowledge is a whole other story. the kicker is the lying and non-responsible practices. that puts things over the edge.

I got a SLW hen from this guy. She was in by herself with about 15 roo's

and I felt sorry for her. Had a bad poopie butt ( looks like he only fed corn) so I quarantined her in my basement for over 3 weeks and wormed her with Fenbenzole (sp?). I did not get any sick birds but I watch her real close for any signs of diaease.
I don't care for his treatment of his birds, I don't think he really cares for poultry, just a way to make money. His wife told me that they lost up to 500 birds last winter, I could not imagine that many in the small coops he had.
Trina has turned out to be a nice hen. I was told that she is a year old but I think she's older.
I had several extra roo's and he toke them in. I hated leaving the boys with him but I could'nt get any takers.
I feel very sorry for his birds because they won't be given a chance with the people who know this guy.

they get a couple hundred birds in every week or few weeks and turn them over.

they have WAY too many birds for the housing. it's seriously out of control.

they also will 'take' any birds people don't want. throw them right in with the rest and resell them.

i wish there was something that could be done. because he is the only one selling around here, he makes money and people don't know any better. my husband keeps hinting that maybe i need to start hatching chicks for the locals. maybe i will next spring. we need a better option.

I was looking for someone to take the roo's off my hands. Thats how I meet him.
We also had to take a 4 month old BO roo that was sweet, sweet ,sweet. He just put him in a pen with a flock that consisted of several roos and a few hens.
Chickflick and I are still crying over that one.
