The SS pullets are doing great...fit right in with the others at home. Now to hope that the 1 I hatched is a roo.

If it does not rain tomorrow they will be going out for the first time. When we had chickens years ago we would let them free range, but I guess those days are over with a husky around. Plus they always got into my flowers and garden.

My layer flock is allowed to free range. They've got 10 acres to explore, but yet they insist on staying in my flower beds around the house. They seem to do a good job eating the bugs, so I don't mind too much. It's just when they decide to take dust bathes in the middle of my Lavender plants!

But then again, they do come out smelling lovely.

Well all, I'm going to go spend some time with my other half. We've had a long, bad, day.
Went down into the basement this morning to find it standing in 5 inches of water. We've had a pump running all day trying to get the water out...but it's going to take until morning to get it done. Plus, the sump pump's motor burnt up from all the water. We spent most of our day outside digging up water lines and making repairs. Gotta go tomorrow and get a new pump and try to install it.

Might be back later. Everyone have a wonderful evening.

Thanks for the welcome everyone! Wow I had no idea that there were so many people from Michigan on this site.

Rhandi, thanks again for everything. The visit to your farm was great! We didn't see any of the hovering deer, but I'm always on the lookout.

I might need one of your varmint shovels to ward them off.

Good morning all, I just turn the coffee on, there will be some in a couple of minutes if you'd care for a cup.

Looks like a damp morning is on tap. Sure hope it does clear up this afternoon so we can salvage part of the day. The forecast says our temperatures are going to be back where they should be. I didn't particularly like upper 80s for May.

I just saw on the news that the little dog that the Saturdays high winds had blown away has been found. Nice to hear a happy ending.

If things dry out enough this week I'm going to make my flock unhappy. I will banish them from the garden so I can start planting. I want to get the onions, lettuce, spinach, and carrots planted. Then the following week plant beans. I will wait until the end of the month to plant the tomatoes and peppers. Hopefully that plan will work and I can avoid having to cover anything to prevent frost. The warmer weather makes us forget that frost still could be an issue.

I hope everyone has a great day.

Morning all!!
This has not been a good morning for me. I am losing my baby chicks that are partially grown. The pond is overflowed there is water in the coop and nowhere for my chicks to go. I have counted 6 gone and need to check the coop and see if I have lost any more.

With my hubby disabled and sons busy with their own families, there is no one to help.

Guess I am not meant to have chickens.
Welcome to the new ones.

Those were cute pictures of the Daddy daughter. You should be very proud.

Hope you and family feel better Sam. Now with all this threat of swine flu, hope all is taking care.
