Yeah me too! I tried to make some "little Romeo's" this spring and tried brooding a dozen of their eggs. Unfortunately he isn't doing his duty and only one of the dozen eggs was actually fertile. Not sure what I can do to "encourage" him to mate more successfully.

I have not yet. I was planning on hatching the call duck and cochin eggs at the same time, then when those dozen were unsuccessful, I figured I would just wait. He does have those crazy feathers going everywhere, so I suppose that would help. Hopefully his little behind won't get cold on the rainy days

Hello All!!!
frow.gif

It is a pretty windy day today. We went to the big, ha ha, Palo yard sales. We didn't see much except baby stuff, and we certainly do not need that anymore.

We got a few things and had a good time anyway. Our super tall grand daughter got a couple things and she is happy.
Our chickens are having a great time running all over the yard. Now my hubby is all upset cause the hens are laying eggs all over in his sheds!!

It is kind of funny really. They are checking out all of the sheds and trailers.

i say we all go over to Scifisarah's house and get some Romeos!

got our pictures taken today and the photographer allowed us to bring our cat and a chicken! we could bring whatever we liked as long as we kept it under control to the best possible.

it went wonderfully! she does a great job and her prices were excellent. she is coming here to do a shoot at the house of all our poultry in June. very exciting!!!

and Crystal! you'll have little chickies soon!

okay, warning for those who might pass out easily, you may want to skip the next part....

we stopped at a house that has this HUGE shed that is really old and just been sitting empty for a long time. asked if we could buy it. owner said she was going to burn it and we could HAVE it! can i just say, what a blessing again! we are thinking of putting it in the 'little village' here and making it into a chapel looking building.

okay...safe to read again for those with fainting issues!

Yeah, I lucked out getting him from the local Farm and Family store a few years ago. I'm not sure where he is actually from. They get most of their chicks from townline, but I don't think they carry frizzled cochins. I definitely haven't seen any there since. I had fun taking him to the Humane Society's "Camp Kids and Paws" and giving a chicken talk with him a few years ago. He got to eat cracked corn out of all the kids hands at the end of the talk. He was so full of corn I thought he was going to burst...

That is awesome about the shed! My dad is wisconsin has a huge shed that used to house his immense RV. They sold the rv and the shed is sitting in a warehouse in pieces. Trying to figure out how to get that over here - Maybe one piece at a time when we go to visit

PS: Make sure to post photos once you get them back!

SciFisarah, Romeo is a cutie. Definitely trim his vent if you're having fertility issues.

citalk2much, congrats on your newbies!

I'm glad to see your hatch has improved since the last time I checked in here.

Opa, LOTS of Wellie eggs go into the hatcher on Monday.

I'm devoting an entire incubator/hatcher just for their hatching. I know there's a dozen of them that have developed for sure...the other 12 I can't even see into the eggs well enough, but I'm pretty positive most of them have developed as well.

Well I hope everyone is having a wonderful Saturday afternoon. A contractor that does our heating and cooling work ask if he could bring his 8 year old daughter over to see some chickens. Needless to say she fell in love with them. She loved picking up and holding the new bantam chicks and was absolutely thrilled when Blue, the former house chicken, sat on her arm and ate scratch from the scoop she was holding. I had a 1/2 dozen bantam eggs that I gave her as they were leaving. She was amazed that there are eggs that are just her size. She asked her dad if they could get some chickens for their house. When he told her that they would have to do a lot of things before they could get any, build a run, build a coop, etc., she informed him that it wouldn't take very long if he has Mr Sam build it. I think she is hooked. I've got some BCM eggs coming next week and I told her I would call them when they start hatching. I can't think of anything more enjoyable than watching a little kid seeing chickens for the first time.
