Another dozen + non hatchery wellsummers. If they were all to hatch I will be up to almost 30 birds.

When I started this a few months ago I only wanted 6 hens!

I should have eggs for sale by spring.

That a big jump in your bird population. I love Wellsummers though they are so pretty some day I hope to have some. If you have any extra that just happy to land on my door step I wouldn't be complaining...

Good Morning Michigan!!!

I "starved" my cornish last night for the first time and they were so happy to have their food back this morning! Only about half of them jumped up to fight over the food, but the others looked like they'd jump in as soon as there was a gap in the line. I tell you, these are the strangest birds I've ever raised.

I start work at 8:00 every morning, and I didn't wake up today until 5 'til.

Thankfully, there was free popcorn at the office to serve as my breakfast

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!!!

I will absolutely have some extra roos. Free to a good home.

My wife and I already have decided that we will need another coop.

The "chicken" part of the one I built is only 6 x 8. We do have a playhouse out in our woods that may have to do extra duty!

Larry, we need another coop too. Our cornish are still in a brooder box in the garage and it gets pretty hot in there during the day. DH is going to put them in the old pig house but he needs to varmit proof it first. Yesterday I was putting ice jugs in the brooder box to keep the chicks cool.

We built a nice run, approx 30 x 50, so we have lots of outdoor room for them. It's right next to the barn where my dogs live so they are kind of protected. I guess I could add on to the coop we have but I am thinking another run and coop is probably the better way to go.

Good Morning!

I should be out weeding the garden...I am really on my way!

Welcome new folks.

Sorry about the losses of chicks.

Sorry about the too many roos. We have too many too! 2 young ones are chasing all the hens, the older roo is being kept busy!!!

About the meat chickens. We feed ours 3 times a day, the amount is figured in to how much they can eat and be full in 10-15 minutes. So they don't have food in front of them all the time. If you do the food in front all the time, it needs to be 12 on and 12 off.

Enjoy the weather and stay cool!

Sarah

I'm planning on the 12on/12off feeding routine for my chicks. They only went 9 hours off last night though because I was late getting around to taking the food away. I'll see how much is left when I get home today...

Question: I've heard about giving crushed tums for calcium and those emergen-C packets for vitamins, but is this safe?

As long as your chicks are getting a good starter/grower feed and plenty of clean water then that is all they will need. The feed already has the supplement. Adding of meds and supplements can be detrimental to young birds with their development process.

AHHHHHHH!!!!!

Fortunately, it is back on, we are cooling off. I went out and gave everyone fresh water, let the hose on mist and stuck it on the fence for a while, the geese are enjoying that!!

They first said it would be until 5 pm until it was going to be restored, thought I was going to have to
