Make the heat STOP!
I am so irritated with Michigan weather...we live in Michigan not Florida!

Yesterday I did everything I could to keep my animals cooled down but I ended up losing on of my Belgian Hares (rabbit) to heat stroke.

My turkeys were acting like it was the end of the world and the chickens are too stupid to get out of the sun!

At least my goats are halfway smart and stayed under their tree where it was slightly cooler. Did I mention that I hate hot weather?!?!?!? cause I do!

Well, it looks like yesterday was going to be our really hot day...so hopefully we'll get back to the 70's where it's tollerable. Everyone cross your fingers that the horrible heat goes away! Anyone know any cold-weather-dances?!?!

Oh Jenny I'm so sorry about Sniper

That's horrible, that poor baby. Have you tried freezing 2 liters and putting them where the bunnies can lay against them? I used to do that when we raised rabbits. I would feel so bad for them because they would lay there and pant and look so miserable.

Yeah, I freeze bottles...but when you have around 70 rabbits it's hard to give them all water bottles. (kind of kills your freezer re-freezing all the time!) If the heat gets to be too much I put them in their carriers and bring them in the house or put them in my nice-cool basement. The ones who were affected by the heat were in outdoor hutches, not in the barn. The ones in the barn were hot but not panting. I also go through and soak thier ears (i also raise English Lops who have extremely long ears) that helps a lot. I'm hoping today goes smoother and since I'm at work and my husband is home he's on hourly checks from 12 until I get home at 530! lol It's frustrating to lose an animal to heat, and when you work all day it's hard to keep a close eye on them.

OMgosh I know EXACTLY how you feel. I commute and work all day so I'm gone from the house for about 11 hours. It's very frustrating to not be able to be there. I feel for ya' woman!

Yeah, that sucks! I was out there 4 times yesterday spraying everyone down, put a fan on them, etc. You need to find a neighbor kid that can run over when it is hot to help you out. I wish you lived a little closer, I would do it for you.

We complain when it was raining and cool....now we're complaining when it's sunny and hot!! Aren't we ever happy with what we get?? I'd rather have the heat than the cold. I'm tired of replanting my vegetable garden...I want fresh vegetables on my plate, and so do my kids! Let's remember to be thankful for another day to live! Make the most of every day. I know it's sounds corny, but hey, life is short and we need to realize that.
