Any input you all have is much appreciated. Should I put my flock in State hands?

Thank you.

Not sure on that. What does your vet say? If he is an Avian vet, seems like he would know what the state would do or not do. I haven't heard of the state stepping in and culling any flocks, but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened.

Been a busy day. Took 5 grand kids to the Dairy Expo at MSU. They had a blast. No one would put their hand in the stomach of a cow, tho. That was pretty creepy! The cow had a hole into it's stomach and kids would feel it... yes, the cow was alive and mooing. Then took them to the children's garden and walked thru the other gardens. What a great day!! Hope you all had a good one!

Wow, I am almost 48 years old... they had that hole in the stomach cow 40 years ago when I went there on a field trip... It horrified me then and to think they still have it horrifies me now! Yuck.

What a great rainy morning. It can rain all day today and tomorrow, but it needs to stop for the weekend, got a lot of work to do in the yard.

BCB so sorry to hear your having problems with the chickens. Good luck on no matter what you decide to do.

RIRjen cool video of the turkeys.

Good Morning! Deer, Ducks and Meatballs... that's what I missed last night. Oh well, It's nice to get caught up in the morning...

Here's what I did yesterday: Gave blood. Ran to store. Made Dinner Rolls.

The dinner roll part is what got me. The recipe said it'd make 8 small rolls. That's EIGHT SMALL rolls... Because I have 8 family members I figured that I'd at least double the recipe. I ended up having enough sweet potato and buttermilk for triple the recipe so I did that. I knew I was in trouble when the liquid portion filled a bowl and a half before the flour was added. I ended up separating it out into equal thirds... back to the original recipe sizes and mixing them up individually. As I was working on the first one, kneading, etc, Two things happened: The two bowls of liquid on the counter waiting their turn for flour started rising above and beyond the bowl and the hole in my arm from giving blood was opened from kneading.

Long story short, I now have two batches of dough in my freezer and half of the other rolls left over. The recipe ended up making 16 softball-sized rolls. AND I TRIPLED IT!!!!! At least now I don't have to mix up another batch when fair time rolls around. (no pun intended)

BCB...so sorry you are going through this. the state will help you, not just step in and take over. i know a couple of people who have had some help and not a 'take down'.

I have a young pair that you may have. I got them from MJ. I love them, but my bantam hen is wanting their heads on a platter! I do not know what color they are... The male is feathering out with black, brown and white. The female is either dark brown and white or black and white.

If those came from MJ, then I would guess they are from my muscovies eggs. They will be black and white, no brown in them.

MJ The chocolate muscovy is doing great. Thanks again.
