Coffee sounds great, might take more than a cup or two. We started our redo of the rabbit hutch into the Serama coop. Me and the boys quit at 10pm. My husband worked on it till almost midnight. It was almost 11 by the time I got the kids cleaned up and into bed. I hope they aren't grumpy today.

Good morning! I don't usually drink much coffee but I sure need it this morning. Thanks

Crystal, have you been super busy? Miss seeing your posts lately.
Crysty, I'm cold here too. Last night I could not get warm. It's much too early for this.
Opa, how is your back? I ruptured a disk 7 years ago and it has been a battle since. I sure hope this is not the case for you and that you recover quickly.

Don't laught too hard over this one. Last weekend, my DH couldn't get warm for anything - he normally is very hot blooded. It was about 50 degrees outside and rainy. He started a fire in the wood stove. REst of us sweated our butts off, opened the windows. At about 2am he gets up cuz he's hot. Closed all the windows and turned the AC on. MAybe he's going thru the "Change"?

Or just busy? I'd love to be able to can and do all that during the summer/fall. Unfortunately I have to work full time so a lot of my weekends are spent playing catch up and spending time with the kids. Not unfortunately spending time with the kids! That didn't sound right

Yesterday I only got one scrawny egg, the chickens don't like this weather either apparently.

Is anyone turning on their coop lights to extend daylight yet? I read chickens need 14 hours of light to maximize lay - we're currently at 14 hours 19 minutes of visible light. With this cloud cover I'm thinking I may need to get the timer running again. Any thoughts on this?

I haven't given much thought about lights in the coop yet. I guess i better start thinking about that.
Briana, I will be canning peaches and tomatoes. I might get some corn to put in the freezer too.
Chicklets, I did not can when my kids were younger. I did not have the time because I spent so much time with them. My house was not as clean either. But now there is just DH and I here, boys are grown and flown the coop.

Morning everyone!!! Both my father and I have gotten dehydrators, and all my walking has made me notice something interesting.... Every year there are many many apple trees along the side of the road in the ditch area next to plowed fields. Nobody ever harvests the apples.....

I'm thinking apple chips

But it makes me wonder... I know from foraging that the ditch is considered public property, but I'm sure 20 years ago somebody put those trees there for a reason. What are the rules for this?

I am going to try to figure out who owns the fields etc and get permission... but it leaves me wondering. I've also had lots of people at work complain about fruit trees that their parents plant that they also let go to waste. They either run the stuff over with a lawn mower, or let it fall for the critters to eat in the fall.

Whew...... Anyhoodles, that's my research for the morning since I can't be out walking in this bright warm sunshiny day

Ohhh, speaking of light in the coops. What kind of bulbs does everyone use? In the past I've used regular bulbs, the energy efficient bulbs and the red heat light bulbs. I'm wondering what everyone else uses.

Lights- I use a regular light bulb that are set on timers. The ladies are spoiled, they like to stay out late and have the light on to come home too!

Trees on the side of the road I think are technically owned by the county, because of the right of way. If someone's house is near it I ask, but the rest we just pick.

The meat chickens are gone:weee:weee

Tea party is today! Off to get ready:)

BBS is blue, black or splash. I had to ask the breeder what it meant and I felt silly because I saw it a lot on different forums, even did a search and couldn't find it. I figured I was the ONLY one that didn't know what it meant!

Thank you,
