Oh, that's great!!!!!!! Hmmm...now if I can just remember to check my pulse...

We have a tiny plaque that reads, " How old would you be if you didn't know how old you was?" by Sachel Paige.
I feel it's going to be a pretty good day when I don't mix up my toothbrush with the toilet brush AND maybe my socks match.

Happiness is having Thanksgiving, and knowing Who to give thanks to! Have a great Thanksgiving, everyone!

Having met you, I would say you are doing a great job at being the nicest person people can meet. Great philosophy, if only more people would live their lives that way we would have a much better planet.

Today certainly was an exceptional day. The weather couldn't have been nicer. Spent and enjoyable day in the woods. Shot a buck this morning and a doe this evening. Seems like tonight everywhere I looked there were does with shooting range; almost constantly from 3pm to 530pm. Since I now have 2 deer that I will need to butcher I didn't want to take another doe until I have these processed. Having more than a couple waiting to process at one time just seems to overwhelming. However, if a big buck had come in I would have put up with the inconvience. Tomorrow looks to be another great day. Going to go out hunting with my son David for a couple of hours in the morning and then back to the house for dinner. Hope and Granny (my mother) have been busy baking mincemeat pies & coconut cake, making the cranberry orange sauce and getting as much ready for tomorrow as possible. My brother's wife is bringing the pumpkin pies and I have a turkey soaking in the brine water. Brining the turkey first and then having it cook in 2 hours gives you the most incredibly moist turkey you have ever tasted. Yep, just thinking about Thanksgiving dinner is making me hungry. So I know that it is going to be a GREAT day. Having many of my family members sitting around my table enjoying good food and each others company sure gives me alot to be thankful for. I am indeed a lucky man. Another thing I have to be thankful for this year is having found this site. I've enjoyed reading everyones posts and have been delighted to meet several of you, and I look forward to meeting more of you in the future. Hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksving and that it is for each of you as good as mine.

I find the older I get, the less I stress over the little things in life. It will all work out. I enjoy just being alive and all the blessings I have, mainly my God, my country and my family. Last year this was slammed home to me ten fold when my youngest child at the age of three suffered a stroke. We almost lost her. God put us/her in the right place at the right time, but that is another story. It just really proved what I already knew but with a new urgency. Slow down, smell the roses so to speak. Life is a journey, enjoy every minute of it, don't be in a hurry to get to the finish line. Part of the reward is the journey itself!! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Today was an exceptional day. Truly a day that reminded me of how much I have to be thankful for. Went hunting in the morning a saw 50+ deer, passed on several small bucks and watched several flocks of turkeys. Then I came home to an incredible dinner. While I tried to not overeat, it was almost impossible. Everything tasted so good. Today was also my mother's 82nd birthday. Most of her grandkids and nieces called, as well as several aunts and alot of friends. It sure made her day to be remembered by so many. It made me feel good to see her happy. Losing my father, having her health diminish, and having to give up her home all last year had been tough. This year after hip replacement surgery her medical outlook is much better. I set up a sewing room for her which occupies a lot of her time. Sitting in our family room watching the wild turkeys and deer that come right up to the back of the house fascinates her; and of course being able to go out and look at the chickens has helped alot. When you have witnessed someone lose so much and then see them rediscover lifes joys, it sure gives you reason to be thankful. Hope all of you have had a wonderful turkey day and I swear I just heard a pumpkin pie call my name.

What a blessing that you can help your Mom like that. Please tell her I said Happy Birthday. I would give anything to have my Mom back.

HI everyone - relatively new to the Chicken Forum. What is so funny I now live in the UP - but use to live in HOWELL!! We moved to the western UP 20 years ago! I lived in many area's around Howell as well. Brighton - Fowlerville. We lived in the "Mail Pouch Tobacco" barn on Grand River!

Currently live 14 miles from Lake Superior near Baraga Michigan!

Have 5 chickens - thinking of getting 5 more in the spring.

UP_Chicken_Lover- I have lived in Howell for thirty years and can't seem to remember the Mail Pouch Barn on Grand River. How long has it been since you were last in Howell? If it has been more than a couple of years you won't recognize it. So much building. There are no longer any cornfields from Howell to Brighton, one strip mall after another. I was in Baraga two years ago. Pretty country.

I was thinking the same thing, I don't remember the barn either. Maybe up_chicken_lover can you give us a hint on an intersection. I may have to run out and ask my husband!

There aren't many barns left on Grand River. There is the backwards house by Owosso Rd. There is still concrete road of the original Grand River between the house and the barn. Quite cool. The house faced the original Grand River then when speed limits increased they moved the road so it would be safer. So the barn had to be moved (it sat where the current Grand River is) so it faces the house now. It has been a rental house for years.

Vangliders own the next barn, the Smith's (I think) owed the farm then Vangilders bought it with a life lease for the elderly lady. She either passed away or is in a nursing home now, as the house looks rented now.

There was the farm at the corner of M-59 and Grand River and old Penny lane. My Dad's family owned that property for several years way back then, now it is an industrial park. We could of been rich if Grandpa wouldn't of sold the farm.

If I remember there were some Farms on the east side of Howell, but they aren't there now. I know my MIL's family owned the property were the old Walmart, now Elder- Berman's is. They sold it a long time ago....could of been rich again lol!

The kids and I went to the Fantasy of Lights parade on Friday night in Howell. We stood out in the cold for a 50 minute parade. I still don't understand why people take there dogs to parades. With all the people, dog confrontations, all the people, I just don't get it! It's not like they are watching the parade too!

I was going to run in the Fantasy 5K but my leg was bugging me. Amazingly it feels pretty good today. There is a run in Fowlerville next Friday so I may run in that. Night races are fun, the cold isn't so but it is good to get out and run.

I guess I best get the boys down for their naps. And check on Rachel, she is cleaning the coops out. Talk to you all soon.

On Grand River - just down from Fowlerville Fair Grounds - on the left side as you head toward Lansing. BIG red barn - there was a Veterinarian across from the white block house that we lived in. I'm fairly certain the house and barn is still there. We were back 2 years ago - it was there then and according to modern technology,it's still there. I think I wrote the post misleading. LOL
I have lived in Howell, Brighton, Pinckney - Gregory and Fowlerville.
