I used a stiff piece of wire that I was able to push thru the core piercing the entire head; I then bent the end over to hold it. The next time I'm going to hang it a little higher so they have to jump for it. At the height I've been hanging it, it will only last about 2 hours.

rofl. I'm lucky DH didn't divorce me when we got back fromn the State Fair. See, there was a sale - 3 chicks for $5 - and my KIDS pooled their money together and bought them with my sister's help while I was somewhere else....

The chicks have done a lot of travelling and camping with us and I was shocked at how fast they grew

I would LOVE to have more but my neighbors wouldn't like it much. I've had to move/place the coop strategically so it would be out of direct view of the neighbors.

When the kids are grown and out, DH and I are moving somewhere with moe land. He'll get his pole barn and I'll have my farm!

Morning all! What happened to that warmer weather we had for a few days? It is back to -6 this morning! I am so over winter now! I don't drink coffee but I think I might have some hot chocolate this morning!

I hope the day gets better......since my last post I felt that the house seemed a little cooler and thought it was just because of the temps out side, but no. The auger that feeds corn into my furnace had come undone sometime during the night and I had corn dumped in a pile on the basement floor. No corn = No heat. Just as I was getting that back togther my oldest son stopped in and asked if he could have a ride to work....the thermostat on his truck went to heck. I drove him into work, came back home and got the corn furnace pumping BTU's back into the house. Heat is good on a day like today.

Mornin' All!

I only missed one day on here and it took me forever to catch up!
Sam-Happy belated B-day!

cit- thanks for the offer about the kitchen, we just added some cabinets to another wall, its kinda hard to explain, DH said no way are we redoing the whole kitchen with all the little ones here. So I painted (gasp, I know) the old cabinets and added some new to make more storage and counter space. It is coming along very nicely. A couple more nights of sanding and painting and I will have it all put back together.

Welcome to all the newbies!

Now back to the babies!

Hello everyone!! I am in Central MI and new to the group and have only had chickens for a little over a year so still learning. I like a varied flock of chickens of different breeds and am always looking for new hens to introduce to my flock. My current flock consists of: Golden Pheonix (George the Roo), White Phoenix (thats Mama!), Buff Orpington, Rhode Island Red, Barred Rock, Black Minorca, Black Sex Link, Isa Brown, Americauna, and one mixed breed that actually looks like a crow!
We are currently looking to expand our laying flock.
We also have 2 Peafowl. (Last springs hatch)
My son had a Red Golden Pheasant that he absolutely adored that unfortunately passed over the winter. So we are also interested in finding more exotic pheasants.
We have also made a recent decision to expand into Turkeys a bit.
If anyone has any info on where I can get these birds the help would be much appreciated.
We are also looking for info on where we can attend bird swaps in MI.
Thank you!
Dreamy

Welcome Dreamy! I am also from Central Michigan, Eaton Rapids area. How about you? We like going to the swaps and stuff too, they are fun to see all the different stuff there. Be forewarned, this is a talkative and friendly bunch, and maybe a little bit goofy, oops, did I say that?!!

Thank you for the welcome!

We're in the Ithaca area. Pretty central to most places in MI.

I know the stockyards in Clare have sales every Monday but the small animals havent made their way there yet.
