good morning! i am actually digging the instant ponds all over. i played puddle jump this morning. not for too long, i didn't want the neighbors to think i am totally nuts.

two of my turkeys slept in a tree last night. i thought for sure they would blow away, but no. they were gobbling and carrying on, wanting to be fed. turkeys are nut bars.

TSC or Family Farm and Home, that is my favorite date night! We have a Dollar Tree right by our FF&H so we go there everytime we go!

MJ-I think it is too late, I am sure your neighbors know you are nuts!

Besides we all know chicken people are all CRAZY!

Good Morning all! Hey the wind will help dry up all the wet.

We sure do need that! My wind mill blew down....again. Ground too wet to hold it down. Chickens are enjoying the grass, they don't care that it's colder and windy out. Well, have a great day.....

I am considering a turkey- think I could pull off a backyard turkey? With my illegal chickens? Just a single backyard turkey?

I really want one. i wouldnt eat it- it would be my friend.

I would name it Gobble...or Turkey Lurkey.
Are they louder than chickens?
I could keep it fat and wings clipped.
Or, do you think it wouldnt work?
My husband turkey hunts. He thinks if we OWNED a turkey, he would be a better hunter- like my pet turkey would teach him turkey tricks or something.

you could keep it clipped for sure. fat, not so much, especially if they are heritage breeds. they are good fliers.

(see my thread for example here

he would be a better hunter, because he could learn their sounds and habits.

they are loud! in the morning, they carry on gobbling until food time. they gobble the minute they see something new or a person that is visiting.

i love my turkeys!!!

Aww...those on the roof!

I can just imagine my neighbors having a heart attack!

Seriously- that made me want one even more!

However, they are loud- as in, loud when there is only one? Louder than my hens when laying would not be a good thing- but I really want one. I just dont think my neighbors would let me have one if they are loud.

My brother in laws' committed suicide. Seriously, the three turkeys were on the fence to the hog pen. One of them said, "Dare you".

First one jumped in, and was murdered in front of its siblings.
The other one jumped in and was murdered also.
Then the lone turkey jumped in and also became hog food.

I understand that the first turkey did not know better. But the next two who had witnessed the murder?

that does not surprise me at all. mine all leave the runs and then wait for me to let them back in. they can jump/fly out, but cannot figure out how to turn around and jump/fly back over.

they are hilarious, though. i like the whistles and peeps they make. the hens are not as loud.

you could always try one and if they got to be too loud, they could go live in Mr. Freezer.

Cat's right, follow the leader...the leader isn't always the guy with the brains though.

Morning, Michiganders!

Turkeys...I always wanted one, too. A big tom, that would just strut around the property. He'd have to be BIG so I wouldn't have to worry 'bout the fox in the field getting him. Some day, I'll have one. I think the royal palms are really pretty, but I don't think they get very big. And, that dangly thing...what's it called, a snood? I think they rock!

Hey All!
I need someone with a truck! More to the point, I need someone to pick up two donated rabbit hutches in Ann Arbor and bring them to my house, near Bay City. My friend's sibling (in Ann Arbor) is willing to part with a couple of hutches for our 4-H bunnies.
Any ideas? I know that *back in the day* we college kids could always find another college kid to hitch a ride with or drop off a desk or whatever. Has that day come & gone???
