I will look in on you all later... I get to go on a field trip with my youngest, a 5th grader... I was worried those times were done, as schools can afford them less and less and my babies are growing, growing. After that, going to buy supplies for the chicks I am picking up from MJ's next week! I used to not like Feb much, but with chickens... much better outlook! lol. Somehow mud with chicken poop seems like a better deal!

One neighbor did enough complaining the DNR brought him 500 lbs of corn/week to supplement what they ate. He simply shot the turkeys and fed the corn to his dairy herd.....I'da never done that

Oughta be a law against the DNR dumping off their wildlife for farmers to take care of, when the DNR is the one to benefit through hunting licensce sales.

Good morning, everyone!! It took me awhile to catch up on everthing from last night!! I am so glad to see such activity here! Great forum!

If only the DNR would leave things alone, let nature take it's course.... it worked for many many years before someone decided someone's brother needed a job and made up what is known as the DNR. If they wanted to control the fish, duh, let people fish!! With more than 2 poles if they wanted, without a license if they wanted!! But no, they invested more in planting those birds than the license income generated.......... ok, I'll get off my soapbox now, they just irritate me!

oh yeah one more thing, there are more turkey accidents around here now than deer!

I'm off the scout the garage today for my building supplies, then check out craig'slist and freecycle to see if they have anything I may need for my new flock!

They also gave me cash, maybe for an incubator? Hmmmm....

Cute card.....I usually get the hot looking young model type from my brother.....when you open it it isn't what the front of the card really looked like at all.

Yes Steve they dropped that black nasty bird off up here. The reason that they are not doing so well lately is that someone keeps dropping skunks off on the island they nest on, imagine that. Those skunks really do a number on those eggs. Poooooooor birdy's NOT

The DNR have really done a number on the UP. We had (notice had) trumpet swan pairs on the lake 4 pair, they have been coming for years and nesting. The DNR killed them last summer said they weren't native to our region, neither was the red or grey wolf but that didn't stop those buzzards from dropping them in our back yards anyway. The timber wolf was what we use to have.

Sorry DNR makes my blood boil.

Just off the Garden Peninsula is a island named Snake Island...down by Fayette. It was once a island with trees, not a big island...but the comorants took it over as a breeding/hatching grounds. In no time the trees were gone and it was a bare island filled with birds. My friend (a commercial fisherman) took me over to the island and showed me the destruction....it was a mess!

He asked me if I had any 40 lb feeder pigs he could bring over to the island and they would take care of the population...I had none at the time, but I did hear the DNR removed several pigs from the island....hmmmm
