I remember canoeing the Platte River with my sons years ago and having one of them remark "hey Dad, didn't those people listen to the boat rental guy about staying away from the swans:"? It seems that a couple in the canoe behind us decided to ignore the warning and canoed closer to get better pictures of nesting swans. I think that it was an experience that they would never want to relive.

We are off to the movies! Monsters vs. Aliens. We are picking up Grandma on the way! I am sure she will love it, its in 3D!!!

Good news, Milly my BO is on day 3 sitting on 8 eggs. It was 10 eggs, but everytime I checked on her two eggs were not covered so now she is down to 8. I hope she stays put and hatches out some more babies!

I have eggs pipping! I just took them off the turner last night. It is only day 19. DD has a dr. appt I want to cancel. snow snow snow. To bad I can't get stuck in the driveway. I have 4 wheel drive. Poor dh had to drive to westland this morning. I know he was a grouch the whole way.

babsboys, That is so sweet of you! Thank you! However, I just got off the phone with our township. Looks like we have to have 3 or more acres to have and 'class 3' animal.

I have one VERY sad nine-year-old on spring break, stuck in the house because of 6 inches of snow and the news that chickens won't be an option.

You might want to check out this site http://thomasonfamilyfarm.blogspot.com/ and there is a place on BYC about how to get the laws changed or find loop holes in them to have your chickens. Check it out!

The Thomason's are actually in Ypsilanti and have had a heap of trouble with their urban farmstead and the city. They are still in the appeals process but are fighting hard. I seem to recall the problem is not so much the chickens but the goats. I don't understand why there are so many restrictions on people growing their own food on their own property. There was a person not far from the Thomasons' who had a natural yard instead of the heavily fertilized mowed stuff most people like to surround themselves with - he got a ticket for having an unkempt property. Lost his case and had to mow down his native wildflowers.
