Daycare Mom, we went to see the butterflies yesterday, or tried to. We got there about 10:45 and there was a line about 100 yards long, clear to the end of the sidewalk at the end of the parking lot! We left and went back today. We were there at 8:55 AM, and about 4th to go through the ticket line.
The butterflies were waking up well, as the sun was peeking out. Since we've recently moved from central MI to SE Grand Rapids area, which is only about 18 minutes away from Meyer Gardens, we bought a family membership. I figured for the 4 of us, just two trips there in one year equaled the membership fee!
It was my husband's first time there and he was a bit overwhelmed by the crowd in the buildings by the time we left at 1:30 PM.
We stopped on the way home at a pet store and bought a bag full of little crickets. My husband and I just finished watching the chicks that came from the Hatchery on Wednesday run all over the place going for a few little crickets that they ate with glee, a let at a time. I wasn't sure they could handle moving grub yet, but they went at those critters like they'd been hunting them for weeks. What a hoot to watch. We then got really brave and gave them some tiny, thin worms from the garden and that provoked another riot in the brooder (in our case because the hover didn't get built, just materials collected, our brooder is the Jacuzzi in the main bathroom, which makes, I think, a very nice brooder for 13 pullets, at least for now
Well, off to find a recipe for a spinach frittata for dinner.
