Count me in! Starting June 1st, I have the ENTIRE summer OFF!!!!!!! I'm SO excited!
Planning on moving our chicks to the outdoor brooder this weekend. We've got a 4' x 12' indoor area, fixed to retain the pine shavings. Got the hooks for chains for waterer and feeder and one 250 red brooder light. I think they'll be fine. As I read somewhere earlier this past week, once they get to 3 weeks "watch out ~ terrible things happen when they are still living outdoors
Well, I don't know for sure how terrible, but definitely funny. Our indoor brooder, nicknamed the "jacuzzi brooder" has been terrific. Until, that is, a few of those darn Golden Buffs figured out how to fly up on top of the waterer, then to the top of the crossbar that has the light clamped to it and from there it's just a hop, flutter and skip to the bathroom floor and FREEDOM!
The two oldest chicks (about 5 weeks) have figured out how to jump repeatedly, hitting their heads on the top of their cage until they pop it off. We find those two, (Gimpy and Audry) perched on the edge of the cage, waiting for one of us to come in with worms or fresh dandelions or other assorted buggy type treats.
Did you guys see my photos and little story about my kids and their shenanigans with the chicks? Check it out. I had fun putting the naritive together during my lunch hour yesterday.
, although I'm so tired now I wish I'd taken a nap instead!!
