Come on over. Be glad to have you come. I'd treat you so many ways you'd have to like some of them.

Hi Opa - Nancy here from Dewitt - what digs your gals have! Are those vents on the upper level? I need to do something - my coop is getting tooo warm already! We have 2 windows facing west and that's it - Anything you can offer would be appreciated!

I was concerned about ventilation so there is an power intake vent at floor level in the work area and a power vent in the ceiling over the birds. They are wire together and are controlled by a thermostat. Plus the walls and ceiling are insulated.

That sounds like a winner! I'll talk to hubby about this - what temp do you try to keep the coop at? We insulated too, and ended up w/mold over the winter because of moisture - we've taken out some of the insulation, but this may be the answer we've been looking for! Thanks

The exterior walls are painted 1 1/2 plywood, the interior is tile board to make cleaning easier and 1" of styrofoam is sandwiched between them. Ceiling is paneled as well with 1 1/2 foam.

Well I lost one of my CC, death by water. There are four others that are acting weak and I have seperated from the group. I've been dipping their beaks in the water, and it seems to be helping......but I cannot keep this up all night. I am using an older horse trailer as my brooder and it has worked very well. I have since covered the floor with paper towel.

Check out the pics

One of the EE's - Wonder how long it will take the CC to catch up in size?

BB Whit Turkeys - I am very pleased with how they are doing! So far they all seem to be eating and drinking well. The only thing that makes me nervous is that they all like to pile on top of each other.

Planning on moving our chicks to the outdoor brooder this weekend. We've got a 4' x 12' indoor area, fixed to retain the pine shavings. Got the hooks for chains for waterer and feeder and one 250 red brooder light. I think they'll be fine. As I read somewhere earlier this past week, once they get to 3 weeks "watch out ~ terrible things happen when they are still living outdoors:rolleyes:

Well, I don't know for sure how terrible, but definitely funny. Our indoor brooder, nicknamed the "jacuzzi brooder" has been terrific. Until, that is, a few of those darn Golden Buffs figured out how to fly up on top of the waterer, then to the top of the crossbar that has the light clamped to it and from there it's just a hop, flutter and skip to the bathroom floor and FREEDOM!

The two oldest chicks (about 5 weeks) have figured out how to jump repeatedly, hitting their heads on the top of their cage until they pop it off. We find those two, (Gimpy and Audry) perched on the edge of the cage, waiting for one of us to come in with worms or fresh dandelions or other assorted buggy type treats.

Did you guys see my photos and little story about my kids and their shenanigans with the chicks? Check it out. I had fun putting the naritive together during my lunch hour yesterday.

Mom to 15 Feathered Youngsters: 2 Black Australorps, 3 Delawares, 3 Speckled Sussex, 2 EEs, 4 Golden Buffs and a RIR rescue chick from TSC named Ruby that is tame and sweet as can be. Oh yes, I'm also Mom to four BIG kids: Anna 30, Kate 28, JianXia 12 and son Yusheng 11 and one pretty decent husband that I've kept around for almost 35 year, Joe and, in a sprint to the finish line, 2 standard wirehaired Dachshunds and 4 rescue mutt cats.

Morning everyone,
Last night I noticed on of my BO hens sounded like she has a rattle when she breaths. After much searching I am not sure what she has. This morning it has spread to a couple more birds. I am going to the feed mill this morning to see if they have something to help. Any advice?
Their eyes look clear, they don't have any nostril discharge, just some sneezing and rattley breathing.

Ok here it is. It actually used to be our trailer that we lived in years ago before we built our house. We gutted out the trailer and re-used parts of to build the chicken coop. Pardon the junk around behind it

we are getting ready for dump day, among other things. Yes I put a chair inside the pen so I could sit with my chickens. My hubby laughed at me and said he can tell that I am getting old

Here are the Phoenix chickens we have. I could not figure out why our young chicks were not coming out today, then I saw the rooster chasing them back inside.

Opa, my husband may. He has a trailer that he uses to haul cars with - he's a mechanic. Let me know if you are still looking and I can call him and ask. I'm still trying to catch up on what I've missed since I've been online so I'm not sure if you've been helped yet. Meanwhile I'll drool over your chicken coop
