The one good thing we thought of, is that it will really help the great lakes. Doesn't do much for our poor yard and chicks. I was out with an umbrella chasing them back in the coop! People, if they saw me were probably wondering what that crazy lady was doing.

Welcome again to the new ones!

Those baby chicks look so cute!!
We ran over to the Trufant flea market today to see what all they had. One man had baby chicks and ducklings. My hubby kept telling me, No More Chicks!!!

So I said, we can get ducks then, and I should replace the 7 we lost!!!

I got, THE LOOK!!
So we came home with no more babies.
That is a nice coop Opa, you do such nice work on your stuff.

Going to finish the laundry and go out and check on the chicks again.
Some good news! We have a little silkie hen setting again. She is on 5 eggs. We have a small rabbit pen that sits up off the ground and put her in that. So at least she will be dry.
God bless you all and prayers for your baby chicks!!!

Finally home from work, and my back is killing me! The only good thing about this rain is that the pasture is finally nice and green. Now I just need to wait for things to dry out enough to let the horses out on the pasture.

By the end of the night last night I had 5 day old meaties that were acting weak. I put them in a tote and brought them into the house. It broke my heart hearing my 6yo Aidan crying his eyes out that he did not want the chickies to die. I force fed them every 15-20 minutes for 2 yours, and then took the tote back outside and put it into the horse trailer with it's own heat lamp. This morning they were looking stronger, but still not 100% so I force fed them again and left for work. I am happy to say that when I got home from work they were all 100% except for one. I left the weak one in the tote with a buddy. I had another one drown to death this morning. I sure hope the color range birds are a little smarter.

I know the Beasleys! Wayne and Cherie, although it's Wayne that is the bird guy. We had a companion animal (dogs/cats) veterinary practice in Williamston for almost 30 years. I've been meaning to email Wayne and see what he'd charge for castrating a young rooster :) My husband won't even try, the rat.

Hello Everyone!!!

Remember that old saying? "Water water everywhere and not a drop to drink!!!" That is what we have around here. Maybe we should grow rice!!!! I think we have a good location for it.
So far, we have not lost any more chicks. We have even put different things around the yard so they could hide under them in the rain. Some of them are finally figuring it out.

I keep going out in the rain to check on them.

Did you all hear about the flu in Michigan? Scarey thought for all of us with kids and grandkids.
