Good Evening!

We had a less busy day today. Went to my sisters house. Their dog turned a year old, so had a puppy get together. The 2 of them ran and ran the whole time. Leo is sleeping in his kennel now.

Off to get kids to bed. Have a great evening and wonderful day tomorrow!

I am not far from you at all! Just about 10 miles from Rockford!
What kind of chickens do you have?

I currently have 9 bantam cochin hens and 1 rooster, two americauna hens (they will be finding a new home soon) and 20 Vantress chickens which I refer to as my little "meat nuggets"

This will be my husband's first time butchering chickens and I am being very careful not to get attached to them! I also have 4 call duck eggs in the incubator that I am crossing my fingers to hatch.
What kinds do you all have? I'm still searching for a few more bantam cochin hens - eventually I'd like to have one of every color and so far I have a black, blue, lavender, penciled, silver laced, barred, patridge, buff, and white.

Here's Romeo, the guy that got my chicken craze started:

And their cottage which is now devoid of all grass:

Wow, Romeo is very handsome! Nice coop too!
I have, Buff Brahma, Buff Orps, EE, Barred Rocks, Buff Laced Polish, Domoniques, Silver Laced Wyandottes, RIR, Isa Browns, mixed bantams and some "meaties" We have quite a variety here! We have a frizzle cochin batam that I hatched from Crystal(citalk2much). She is cute, but not sure if she is frizzled or not. Glad to know another BYC friend is so close!

well I have my bread cooling on a wire rack now. I made a beer bread tonight. The origional recipe called for 6 cups self rising flour, 2 bottles of beer, 1 cup of sugar. To this I added 1 whole sliced n diced semi-dried tomato, tsp of onion and garlic powder and 1 1/2 cups of shredded colby jack, and sharp cheddar.

Today was a beautiful day. I took Granny to Muskegon from my niece's daughter's baptism. What a beautiful baby. She was born February 16th and now weighs 14 pounds and has the incredibly think dark hair. I experienced a flashback to my youth. Minister talking, me falling asleep, Granny poking me in the ribs. After a wonder luncheon we headed out to really improve upon the day.

Drove back to Grand Rapids and finally got to meet Crystal. Steve, she has an entire cage full of stew meat. She kept saying something about rescue babies but it sure looked like a possible dinner to me. Me, the man who only was going to have 3 or 4 hens, brought home 3 of the most adorable pyncheon chicks. They hatched yesterday and hopefully they will do well. They were a little weak acting when I got them home, however, they might just be peeped out. They chirped loudly almost all the way home. I've got them in a brooder and did get all three to take a few drops of sugar water.

After we left the day got even better. I set the GPS for Vicki2x2's house, and Martha (the GPS is a good thing) took us off the expressway. Sure was a much more pleasant drive that way. I really enjoyed seeing Vicki again and getting to meet her husband Mike. He was trying to get their grass mowed and like just about everyone else in the state he need to figure out how to cut grass from a boat. The central and western parts of the state appear to have gotten a lot more rain then we did in Howell.
She gave me a gorgeous blue laced red wyandotte pullet.

I don't know how anyone could have had a much better day than I. Time spent making Granny happy, time spent with family celebrating the newest addition, time spent with BYC friends, and more chickens.

Here are a couple of pictures of the pyncheons bantams.

We got our raspberries planted we got from great G&G today. It will be hard to wait to have enough to someday make jam. I guess they may give a few berries for snacking this year, hopefully more next year. Grandma always get a nice crop from hers.

We had a very nice drive today too. All the way north to see MJ and pick up 2 BR poults. We took the scenic route there which took more time than stated on mapquest.Almost 4 hours. Very nice drive though. And MJ you and your family are very nice. My boys couldn't stop talking about the ducklings, chicks, and the snake. Thank you for all the time you took with us. The BR poults are settled into their brooder. I hope they do well. By the way we took e-way home and it only took 2 hours tops.
