I'm trying to decide whether or not to spray my orchard. Although the wind has picked and and I will not have to wait for it to die down. Last night the weather man said the storms had past so I sprayed. Just as I finished the sky was rent with lightening and then it opened up and poured. $12 worth of spray wasted in about 30 seconds.

Hi Sarah,
sorry I don't know of anyone around here that has one. Good luck with all that though.

We only had 4 and did them after dinner last night. It was our first time and it went well. We had some old friends that came over and helped and also showed us how. Our biggest weighed 14 pounds! We are going to have him for dinner tomorrow.

Wow, 14 pounds is huge! Last year a friend raised 50 meat chickens so we thought 20 should be a breeze - hah. I think next time we will stick to 10 or so and not worry about sharing the extras with family and friends.

Yeah, I wish I could help him myself, but I don't think I could manage to watch my one year old and pluck chickens

I was actually thinking that the whole slaughter business would make me sick, but I really don't mind. These meat chickens are so fat, ugly and lazy compared to my cute little cochins, I have a hard time thinking of them as real chickens.

I had to share, my husband "McGyver" has been at it again. Look what he made to use for scalding and plucking our meaties. I will also use it for canning later this summer. He used an old grill frame with the side burner still attatched and mounted an old sink on top of the frame. It sure helped yesterday.
