Hi everyone!
Steve - have a great weekend up here. It should be good
weather. My DD actually wants to get into the vet program at MSU. She's got 2 more years til she graduates from MHS, but she agressively looking for grants and scholarships already.

Boyd -- saw the snake pictures. Sorry i don't know what it is, but I know it would have scared the crud out of me!!

Good luck with the new fuzzybutts!! Someday, someday I'll hatch out some.
Been watching all the birds out at the feeders to de-stress from a hectic day. Wanted to watch the chickens, but they went to bed early tonight.

Have a good night everyone
Cristy

Sorry for the red light look but the birds need the heat. Only the four welsummers so far.

Congrats on the hatch Opa.

I went to MJ's this am to pickup my Black Javas that she hatched for me. I was very excited to have 9 hatch. One of them is a little runt, but he is very energetic and seems to be doing very well. Added bonus is that it looks like one will be White. The White Javas are even more rare than the Blacks so I'm pretty excited about the White. I've been looking for these guys for months so I am very excited.

Well, I just was scared to death! Kinda silly. I went out to shut the chicken door that leads out to the run. And I had forgotten that my black Australorp hen had flown out earlier in the day (she's a stinker). So I shine the flashlight in and see a black thing on top of the feed can and I scream at the top of my lungs (feed can in the storage area of the coop). Oh silly me, it's just my chicken. She came in through the cat door! Well, at least I didn't wake anyone in the house with my screaming. Oh what do the neighbors think?

Ok, I had to share a few pics.

They should all turn Black as the feather out except the little puffball in the middle. He will probably be white.

The little guy. He's not much to look at yet, but he's got spirit.

I'm so happy with these chicks. They are very mellow and seem to enjoy the attention . Of coarse that may be because of the wonderful care they received at MJ's.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Good morning, just went out and checked the incubator. Looks like things are stalled. I now have 4 welsummers and 1 black copper marans and 1 pipped welsummer and 1 bcm egg; exactly the same as it was at one am.

Well, I thought we were getting some control on our predator problems. Last night we locked up the cats, put our baited trap out. We caught a stray cat about 11 pm, let it out and it hightailed it out of here. About 6:15 my husband got up and went out and check the trap and there was big coon in it, animals were all safe, barn still had lights on and radio playing. He came back in to tell me and as he looked out our bedroom window he yelled get up, something is chasing mama duck and the babies around, a dog or fox or something. He had just started getting dressed, so we were both grabbing clothes.

I grabbed his jammie pants (too big) and had that and my tshirt on went running out the door barefoot, grabbed my kids baseball bat on the porch, hair flying, running around the house to get to the back pasture. He is yelling out the window while he gets his clothes on. It was a fox and I caught it in the fence, but it found a low spot and ducked out before I could get in the pasture. Fortunately I scared it enough it dropped the ducklings in its mouth. One was already dead, and one is now limping, two more ducklings are already gone, must have been at least his second trip. Dirty scum! He is lucky I didn't catch up with him!!

Poor mama muscovy was trying to defend her babies but was no match for that fox and it was a big one too. Thank goodness we seen it, because of course, we heard nothing!!

So hubby called work, told them he would be a little late, we threw up a dog kennel, moved mama out of the pasture, into a dog kennel with her brood. Not as roomy, but safer. I have never seen a fox here, but then, I have never had baby ducks running around either!

The end of July can't get here fast enough!! I need my LGD!!

I am sorry about the babies!

We have a family of 6 foxes praying on the rehab it is not fun. They have gotten to many of our little friends and they have wiped out all but 2 wild turkeys on the golf course. I live in fear I live in their hunting range I don't want to lose the wild turkeys over here!
Be careful with your geese to they have gotten two at the rehab!

Crystal,

Did they take adult geese or babies? My babies are getting pretty big, about half grown now, bigger than the ducks, so hopefully not easy pray for a fox, though, still act like babies, so still vulnerable. The geese are protective of them though and I lock the babies in the barn at night. I would have locked the ducks too, but the naughty geese were picking on them. I can't wait until we can afford to move and have a big enough barn to have separate space for everyone!
