Opa wrote in another post somewhere that a friend used the golden marlin method, and was surprised to find over 20 dead 'coons and possums the next morning. Maybe a systematic approach to removing the predators? If the fox for example, killed a duckling, that is what I would use for bait. He's already got the taste for it.

Raccoons are pretty much open to eat anything, but the trick is not catching a stray cat like you did

Could you use a leg hold trap in the low spot where the fox squeezed out? that and/or a box trap, and something for the raccoons......

I don't have any leg hold traps, but have one live trap, which we used last night. What is the golden marlin method? I have the dead duckling and will use it if need be, to protect its siblings! Open to suggestions!!

Thanks for the warning, will have to talk to hubby and see what we can do. Sounds like all the geese need to come in at night, which will not make Daddy goose happy. We have a lone male that has adopted the goslings as his. He doesn't allow the others to get too close to them unless he says so and doesn't allow them in the barn at night with the goslings. Could be interesting!

Golden Marlin is a fly poison. You can use it a couple of ways to dispatch of predators... but the 1st thing to remember, it will kill anything that digests it so lock up all the kiddos and feathered friends.....

Add the fly poison to the top of a cookie sheet , drop peanut butter and jelly on top of the fly poison.... 2nd method seems to work best for me for racoons and possums is to get a small tin, fill it halfway up with coke or pepsi, and pour poison inside. It is a very fast killer. I used this to get rid of a trap smart coon that was knocking over my trashcan on a nightly basis. He didn't make it 10 feet away from the poison.

Thanks Boyd, I might try that. I locked all the cats up last night anyway. Obviously it is open season at my house! I have a broody hen that has chicks hatching this morning too! Oh boy!! Where do I find fly bait?

the brand name I buy is golden malrin, at tractor supply. I go to the one in Fenton, and it is over by the equine supplies with the fly control. The smaller can is like 6 or 7$ and the gallon size can is close to 23$

Maybe we can throw up a divider, herd babies and Giselle (the poor wrongly sexed gander who is stuck with a girls name now) in first, then shut them in and herd the rest of the geese after.
