It's hard to believe that this little Vorwerk chicks have turned into the bird they are today. This is the pair I will be bringing to Chickenstock.

Initially I was going to have only 3 or 4 laying hens. Do to a mixup 33 chicks were sent to me rather than my son. They were Welsummers and Black Australorps. Pretty birds and excellent layers. One night while discussing chickens with my son, who only had BAs, he commented that he loved the steady production and easy care of his birds but it was rather boring looking at only one color of bird. My old brain bone started smokin' with that comment. Two colors was not much less boring than one so why not just have 2 of each breed/color that you have room for and then you would have a avian rainbow. So now one year later I now have Welsummers, Black Australorps, Wyandottes in gold laced, silver laced, Blue laced red, and splash, Blue & Buff Orpingtons, Spangled Hamburgs, Silver Seabrights, Mille Fluer Pyncheons, Vorwerks, Blue Andalusian, Speckled Sussex, Cuckoo Maran, Silver and partridge Ameraucanas, and Delawares. I think that's 18 different colors/breeds. That's my rainbow flock until I can build a bigger coop. There are just to many pretty birds, like Lakenfelders, Creme Brabanters, and the list goes on.
