i have hatched lots of bantams, yes, but in incubators, Genesis 1588, Forced Air LG and Dicky.

i have had them go 21. even Seramas. stop turning at 18 and they will pop when they pop. i've had them pop at 22 days as well. but that again is in bators, not under a broody, so my experience will be totally different than under the 'real deal'

I hatched banties under a broody they where MF cochin it took 21 days. Hope that helps

Exciting stuff in the yard this evening. Hanging out with the kids, hubby and chickens and the big tom came out of the chicken yard. He was strutting around the hen. Very cool to see. I told Brody to run into the house and grab the camera so I could take a picture and he got to the back porch and started yelling. He ran into the house and wouldn't come back out the door. I thought he was saying bee.. bee..[ he is very allergic] but Art thought he said bat. So we ran up the steps and sure enough there was a live bat crawling out from between the stairs and the foundation of the house. It was tiny. I think it decided it wasn't dark enough to come out yet and went back. Yes I know they may carry rabies and the kids know to stay away. But very cool to see so close up. After all the the tom was on his way to see what goodies he could find in the yard, so no picture.

Thanks - Monday will be 21 days - I have NOT been turning the eggs - what I read was that the hens would turn and redistribute them - maybe I'll end up with 12 duds!!!!!!!! - Am/was I suppose to be managing the eggs - I thought I could depend on MOM! UGH! -

Good luck with the hatch hustonn.

Well I went out to lock up chickens for the night and the bat was out again. I had my husband get a picture of it.

Does anyone know what kind it might be?

Briana...i second the Little Brown Bat. there are only nine types of bat that live in MI. it is way too cute! here is a website that is pretty interesting....http://crittercatchersinc.com/critters/bats/MI_bat_species.html of course, they REMOVE bats, but it tells a little about each type.

we want to put some large bat houses here on the house for mosquito control.

....everyone here is so correct...momma would of been turning the eggs. she would also of stopped on about day 18 and stabilized them.

Good morning. We didn't get any of that rain yesterday. We haul water so getting our garden water is next to impossible. My husband made a connection to our water hauler for a garden hose. Looks like we have to buy a soaker hose and hook that up and try to get the gardens some water that way. That poor little bat was still on my back steps this morning. Art picked it up with a net and took it to the barn where they all live.
MJ I don't know about those bat houses, a big old red barn works really good for us. You can count 10 - 12 bats at once flying around after dusk.
We put the trap back out last night. Art wanted to take a break from digging holes. And sure enough another darn racoon. Where do they all come from!! This makes 13 so far this summer.

Catray, you can get some fertalized eggs from MSU Poultry Rsch Ctr - that's where mine came from!

Thanks Hustonn... I would love to do that, but my space is limited and we are also preparing for a possible move. Nothing has hatched as of this morning, so they may be dudds. I did have a Serama lay an egg in the car, on the way to MJ''s... that one hatched yesterday in MJ's incubator, lol. Now, what to do with that little lonesone one?!!!
