Looks like the cold weather is coming in now. I suppose it was bound to happen, it is mid November in Michigan. I know I sure was enjoying those 60's though.

We are going to have are first grandbaby in Dec. so she has been sewing and making baby cloths, quilts, and fleece warmers so then she is like going crazy. She has been babysitting a 2 month old boy and putting on girls stuff she makes to see if it fits. I go home and remind the little guy that girls are a little goofy sometimes when it comes to babies.

A few years ago I spend over $2000 on snow removal. The next year I broke down and bought a snow plow for David's truck. We had minimal snowfall. Last year shoveling snow wore me out so this year I bought a big two stage snow blower and so far we don't have any snow. Hopefully it will keep working.
Sorry hunting so far. Lots of standing corn and lots of hunting pressure on the surrounding properties. One idiot walks back and forth on our west property line between us and the swamp. He sits for 10 minutes, slings his gun across his back and then walk a hundred yards like he is trying to sneak up on a deer. It would be funny to watch if it wasn't having such an adverse effect on our hunting.
David has to chase materials today for a job and I needed to do some things around the house so I decided to not hunt this morning and sleep in. Granny's dog decided she had to go outside at 4am and of course I couldn't get back to sleep. What is it they say about the best laid plans?
I still would like to reduce my winter flock so I have 3 black australorps hens and a pair of pynchion bantams to give away. the BAs hatched 5/08 and the bantams 5/09. FREE and healthy.

Opa sorry to hear about the idiots that you have hunting around you. I wish that I could take the chickens off your hands but I am looking to get rid of some more of mine.

Corn is a problem around me I would like to take some does off the property but they are held up the corn. Only thing to do is sit at the water holes and wait they have to drink some time.

Wynette mentioned that there was a Michigan thread here on BYC. I guess I just didn't realize it would be over 2000 pages long!

Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say Hi to my fellow chicken-keeping Michiganders.

Welcome, Eggcellent!

Hey, everybodies...... guess what, guess what, guess what?!?!?!? I had two duck eggs in the duck house today! I'm so excited. Not sure what the heck to do with duck eggs, but someone told me they're yummy and they're also good for baked goods.

I have another question. I was told that I should think about giving my chickens some Ivermectin sometime soon. This person said that he worms his chickens in the Fall. He said he thought that the dosage might be 1cc per bird? I have some Ivermectin pour-on on hand, because I de-wormed my yaks with it. Any advice on this? And ducks do not need it, right?

Hubby's on vacation this week and we're catching up with stuff around the farm. I probably won't be posting as frequently for a week or so. I'll check in every now and then though.

Have a happy week!

Per the avian vet at MSU-
The pour on ivermecian or generic (its cheaper) - 2 drops on skin on back of neck for Large Fowl. 1 drop for bantams.

folks asked him about the eggs. He said he would be more than happy to eat them if they didn't want to after worming the hens.

We didn't worm our ducks....

Duck eggs are good. The whites are runny compared to chicken eggs.
Enjoy them!
