Thaks everyone for the insight.

Opa I never thought about people putting chicks in the wrong bin before. Like at Tractor Supply. I guess thats a very good reason not to do that.

Last Spring I got my girls from the local elevator. I was there when she was unpacking them. SO I am totally sure of what I got and no one else touched them. They were beautiful chicks with no problems. I wanted to order thru him again, but they do not order the breeds I want. I was told of Eevies House of Treasures. He said he could get them for me within about a week. He just got babies in yesterday, so I thought I drive over and take a look. I'm a little afraid now though. As a baby I wouldn't know the difference between a white orphington and a white leghorn. But if I mail order what do I do with all the extra and I don't want to pay ALL that shipping.

this is too hard. I just want babies. That shouldnt be so hard

Thanks

Good afternoon to everyone. All this talk of chicks. Hopefully if all keeps going well I will have my first chicks hatch next week.

As I was waiting for the afternoon kindergarten bus the muskrat that lives in the ditch was out and about. And the last 2 days there has been a skunk in the yard. P.U.
This all points to spring being around the corner.

LMAO too funny Susanne,

I dont have any Ameracuna Roo's as the last one I had was so flippen mean , well I wont say what I did with him. But he's not here anymore. After he flocked my face a few to many times. We named him when we first got him, Tommy 2 feather as he jumped in the front paddock with my Dobe male, English Mastiff and Great Dane....I believe he wanted to show the hens how tuff he was. IT DID NOT WORK. lol I cleared the paddock gate in one jump and saved his nasty butt. Needless to say the name fit as he only had 2 tail feathers on his body LOL. We renamed him about 2 wks later to Upside The Head Fred...as you had to take a broom out to feed/water and collect eggs. That got really old in about a months time. End of Fred and End of Story LOL

Mom 2 em:

I have raised Dachshunds for 14 yrs now, yes their instint is to hunt/kill. This will work if you want to keep the dog for your daughter. Get a cage muzzle for her and put it on. She can eat and drink with it. Sounds cruel, its not, she's a killer and always will be point blank. As far as doing her business in the house, UNACCEPTABLE period. When you cannot watch her, in a small crate she goes or put pull-ups on her and make her leave them on, even if you have to tape them on and allow her to mess in them, she will only do it a few times and it will stop. Take them off when she's goes outside and right back on when she's in.

Crazy Chicken Fever (my daughter) will tell you all about Dachshunds. I gave my grandson Austin a blk/tan female named Libby. She was about 4 yrs old...wonderful dog. She always asked to go outside, told you when her bowl was empty, or water, when she wanted a treat...the whole shot. Daughter gets her, she ruined her carpets peeing, wouldnt never tell them she wanted out. Never ask for anything ...would wander off and got put in doggy jail. WHY? that dog hates my daughter. Hates her period and does this cuz she's a dachshund and they hold grudges! Your dog pooping on top of your shoe tells me one thing...she doesnt like you. And probably cuz she loves your daughter and cant see past that. Dachshund are sometimes to smart for their own good. Time for you to become the wicked witch of the north. Get on top of that dog and I will bet you she will stop all this. You need to be alpha with her , not the other way around.

Happy story for Libby, when she got put in doggy jail, they called me as she was micro chipped. Daughter I think was to scared to tell me she had been missing for 5 days. I got Libby drove home with her in the front seat, I pulled up to the mail box she took one look at the house and started screaming like someone was killing her. She was so happy to be home where she belonged and she hasnt messed in my house or torn anything up , its like she never left. Reason, I do not allow ill behavior in my home and she knows it. I am alpha.

Hope you dont think Im trying to preach to you, just ive had dachshunds so long, Ive seen it all with them.

Hi Opa, I have always bought from the local elevator myself. Well except this last time. This last time I bought from an individual and literally got ripped off. He said I was getting Buffs and I totally got something else (see my Icon). Unfortunately all these fuzzy butts look the same to me. So my question is; do you know of any reputable sellers of Buff Orpingtons in the Jackson area?

I was thinking the same thing with the poop and peeing on her shoes and her side of the bed. I am no dog trainer, but good luck with your dog.

oooopsie daisy knows what shes talking about with the dogs. I've had my cho. lab since the fall. Hes just over 2. And a total challange. Attention getting chewer. Cell phones, remotes, socks, toys, last night my perscription glasses. Ooopies advice was so sound, but I did not do what I was supposed to and paid for it. Thanks for listening ooopsie when I called yesterday. The kids were crying last night. They are not ready for me to give up on him just yet. Going to try to talk Allen into giving it another try. I believe its not the dog. It's me. I have a hard time being consistent with him. I'll try harder. Keep in touch

Susanne,

Give him 2 wks and he'll be a better dog. I know it.

Heck Ive been training dogs for over 25 yrs and my own daughter wont listen and is the worse dog owner Ive seen. Takes her months to get them to do anything she asks as she spoiles them to much and doesnt follow through with correction. LOL so its ok, you try a little harder and Im sure it will all work out for the best.

San415, I'm not sure if I welcomed you to our thread but we're glad you've joined.
I will try to answer what I think will help. When you log on and then go to the very bottom of the page you will see "my post". Click on that and it will show all the threads that you have posted on. If you click on one of those threads it will take you back to the first post following the last one you have read.
If you click on "recent posts" it will show all threads with the most current one first. A chick appears next to it indicating that something has been posted that you haven't read. As soon as you open that thread the chick disappears.
Personally, rather than subscribe to a thread I just check "my posts" and that way I avoid receiving email notifications each time someone posts on a thread I'm interested in enough to have responded. If you want to follow a thread but not respond you must subscribe to not lose it in the vast number of threads.
If this doesn't make sense or answer you questions PM me and I will provide you with my phone number.

Be sure to check on the link in my signature line. We'd love for you to attend Chickenstock.
