Has anybody heard anything about when Chick Days is going to be starting up at TSC here in Michigan - I've heard a few states farther South are starting to get chicks in, so I figure it can't be too far off here (although with all the snow outside today, it sure doesn't look like we are getting close!!)

I just tried calling the TSC here in Bay City and all they could tell me was "closer to Easter".

to all the newbies. Glad you found this thread! I know I bought my chicks early March. Keep calling cuz you may have got some guy on the phone that knows nothing!! Still snowing!

I want spring!! Yesterday was such a beautiful day, so depressing to go back to snow and wind and cold.

bjengel - I purchased 6 chicks from TSC last year. I ended up with 4 layers and 2 roosters from their "pullets". All in all not bad. The layers that I ended up with are Buff Orp and Red Sex-link. We kept one roo out of the two. He's my favorite guy

Of course we purchased over 25 chicks from various BYC members also

If I remember correctly TSC in Lapeer had them the first weekend in April last year.

We've gotten chicks every year there and ducklings a few years back. We were lucky and didn't have any health issues with the ones we brought home. Good luck to you! It's so much fun

bjengel, I got my chicks on March 22 last year at the local Family Farm and Home store. They had them in before TSC. If I remember Tsc got them a couple weeks later. Oh and good luck in coming home with only 6-8. I went with the plan of getting only 8 and came home with 16. Then went back a few weeks later and got 24 meat chickens. Then got a cockeral from Opa and then three welsummers from vicki2x2 and then later three more from her. I now have plans to get more from some folks at Chickenstock. It just doesn't stop....

Hillbilly Hen is right. Wait till you talk to Opa about his rainbow flock, then you'll start think, ya know he's right all one color chicken is a little boring, then you talk to people on BYC and see all the beautiful diffrent chickens you don't have and start trying to make plans for a second... third coop and the list for next year starts. By the ways turkeys are AWSOME!! Great at looking out for hawks, eagles, and anything else that flies overhead, and they actually have more personality than my chickens, oh yeah and then they can be used for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner too.
