M2EM, last winter I had a single chick and I thought she would drive us nuts before it was finally large enough to put with the rest flock. She wound up in the house from November until April and for quite some time avoided interaction with the rest of the flock. I think she didn't realize she was a chicken.

Sam,

I held it all morning- but you know, chores to be done, stuff to do- I had to put it back. Now its peepeeeepeeeeeepPPPPPEEEEEEEP PEEEEP until it gets exhausted and collapses.
It has a stuffed duck. I wonder if somehow I could put it in with the JG chicks but separate it so it could at least see and hear them.

Good morning, everyone!

Mom2emAll...I, too, know all about the lone chick syndrome. I had several of them last year...they almost drove me nuts.

But now my hatches are going so well that I've got chicks running everywhere! 36 of them in brooders right now (all less than 10 days old), and more hatching today/tomorrow. I seriously need help.

Best of luck with your chick...I feel for ya.

If you werent so far from me, Id give you this baby to add to your mix. Poor little cute Polish- probably get real attached to it, and it will turn out to be a roo anyhow.

That aside, I am certain i will go crazy. Just for a week. Then the silkies will hatch and then it can be the "big chick" with them.

Yes....it's too bad we're so far apart. I'd be more than happy to take the little fella in. And honestly, in my opinion, the strongest chicks are the first ones to hatch, and more than not they are roosters.

How far are you from Almont? Probably still way too far.

Mom2em All I'm not sure where about you are, but Destiny Farm (Brighton Twp) has some chicks if you were looking for a friend. I'm not sure what she had, but she had at least four large brooders full of chicks. Good luck.

Our girls (26) REALLY haven't like the cold weather and snow and have been holding back on us....only 5 YES FIVE eggs yesterday! Warmer today, and we've gotten 11 so far! Bring on the warm weather, PLEASE!

Destiny Farms is just about an hour from me- I was willing to go, but my husband vetoed me and said in five days it will have buddies. So, I have it in a cage with its stuffed duck and a really cool mirror that I bought at the petstore. it is like a three sided box, with a mirror on all three sides. I have it in there, and the baby is tucked right in with its three "siblings"..and I am being the crazy woman of the house- SHHHH!!!! DONT YOU WAKE THAT BABY UP!! "If you wake that baby up, YOU are holding it- I mean it!!!"

I sounded just like that when my kids were born, and now also when my grandson spends the night..

ETA:
Sam, I tried to partition the others, but I couldnt secure it very well, and the other chicks considered the baby to be food...and they kept trying to flog it and peck it...

There is a free duckling- poor lonely duckling- in Macomb, on Craigslist.
If it was close, i would get it and it could be friends with this LOUD baby...but that wouldnt work in six days because the new babies will be too small....
poor little duckling.
